The position of Medical Scribe, also known as a Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS), at Oak Street Health is pivotal in supporting primary care providers with precise and timely clinical documentation. Situated at the 2301 N 29th St., Ste. 500, Philadelphia, PA location, this role is designed to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of patient records by accompanying providers during patient visits, team huddles, and post-appointment summaries. Medical Scribes are extensively trained to master the organization’s value-based care model and clinical documentation practices including ICD-10 and CPT coding, and population health strategies.

This is a full-time role offering a competitive pay range from $17.00 to $31.30 per hour, along with eligibility for bonuses or incentives from CVS Health. Medical Scribes gain hands-on clinical experience and develop a deep understanding of patient care workflows, which makes this an excellent opportunity for pre-med or healthcare administration students and recent graduates seeking to bolster their careers. The position requires a commitment of at least one year, with a preference for candidates available for two or more years, reflecting the importance of continuity in this partnership between providers and scribes.

Key responsibilities focus largely on documenting patient encounters accurately and comprehensively—covering the history of present illness, assessments, clinical plans, and physical exams. Medical Scribes also assign CPT and ICD-10 codes, prepare after-visit summaries, and consult closely with providers to ensure the integrity of documentation. In addition to documentation, responsibilities include clinical documentation improvement tasks such as reviewing medical records, supporting daily huddles, and leveraging population health tools. Administrative support tasks like placing patient orders and referrals and assisting with team tasks are also part of the role.

The role demands strong detail orientation, excellent typing skills (minimum 55 WPM), and familiarity with medical terminology and clinical environments. Ideal candidates possess prior clinical experience such as shadowing or volunteering, are adept communicators, self-motivated, and able to quickly learn new technical workflows. Working on-site for approximately 40-45 hours per week is mandatory, with predictable hours and breaks, underscoring the full-time nature of this position.
