The role of Medical Scribe, also known as Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS) at Oak Street Health, is pivotal in supporting primary care providers by handling clinical documentation and streamlining patient care processes. - Knowledge of medical terminology and common medications
- Prior clinical experience including shadowing or volunteering preferred
- Advanced listening and communication skills
- Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new technical workflows
- Ability to adapt to new workflows and learn new concepts and skills
- Ability to take direction and be a collaborative team member
- Ability to be a self-starter
- Excellent job attendance including ability to work in-person
- Ability to commit to at least 1 year in role
- Ability to work approximately 40-45 hours per week during clinic hours
- Compliance with hospital and company policies including HIPAA
- US work authorization
Job Qualifications
- Knowledge of medical terminology and common medications from pre-medical degree or prior clinical experience
- Prior clinical experience including shadowing or volunteering preferred
- Prior scribe or transcription experience preferred
- Advanced listening and communication skills
- Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new technical workflows
- Fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken by communities served where indicated
- Ability to adapt to new workflows and learn new concepts and skills
- Ability to take direction and be a collaborative team member
- Ability to be a self-starter
- Excellent job attendance including ability to work in-person
- Ability to commit to at least 1 year in role, 2+ years ideal
- Ability to work approximately 40-45 hours per week during clinic hours with predictable schedules
- Compliance with hospital and company policies including HIPAA
- US work authorization
Job Duties
- Joining the provider in the exam room to observe patient visits
- Documenting patient encounters in a structured note, including the history of the present illness, assessment, plan, and physical exam
- Assigning appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes
- Preparing after visit summaries
- Consulting with provider to ensure accurate and specific documentation
- Requesting and reviewing medical records
- Leveraging population health tools to support clinical documentation improvement
- Preparing for and supporting daily huddles and clinical documentation reviews
- Placing orders and referrals
- Addressing tasks
- Supporting the care team with additional responsibilities related to clinical documentation
- Other duties as assigned
