Job Description
Oak Street Health is a leading primary care provider dedicated to transforming healthcare for adults on Medicare. With a strong emphasis on value-based care, Oak Street Health operates specialized clinics designed to improve health outcomes and quality of life for seniors by addressing social determinants of health and chronic conditions. The organization’s mission centers on creating a healthcare experience that is accessible, compassionate, and highly effective, ensuring each patient receives personalized and proactive care. Oak Street Health is known for its commitment to innovation, community engagement, and a supportive work culture that values the contributions of every team member.
The role of Medical Scribe, also known as a Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS), at Oak Street Health is integral to the clinic’s mission of providing exceptional patient care. As a Medical Scribe, you will work closely with primary care providers to accurately document patient encounters in real time, allowing providers to focus fully on delivering compassionate, thorough care. This full-time position is based in Paterson, NJ, with working hours from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. The role offers a competitive hourly pay range of $17.00 to $34.15, alongside eligibility for bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package.
The Medical Scribe supports providers through a diverse set of responsibilities including detailed documentation of patient visits, coding with ICD-10 and CPT systems, preparing after-visit summaries, and providing administrative support related to orders and referrals. Beyond traditional scribing duties, this position emphasizes clinical documentation improvement and the use of population health tools to close care gaps and enhance chronic disease management. Scribes are expected to engage in daily planning huddles, participate in clinical documentation reviews, and collaborate closely with providers to ensure documentation accuracy and specificity.
This role is particularly suited for individuals pursuing careers in medicine, health informatics, public health, or medical coding. It offers valuable hands-on clinical experience in a supportive and educational environment, supported by on-the-job training in clinical workflows, value-based care principles, and health information management. The position requires at least a one-year commitment, ideally two or more years, to fully benefit from the role’s learning opportunities and to make a meaningful impact on patient care.
Being a Medical Scribe at Oak Street Health means more than just documenting; it’s about becoming an essential member of the care team and contributing to a more connected, convenient, and patient-centered healthcare experience. Oak Street Health is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace where employees feel valued and empowered. As a Medical Scribe, you will gain practical experience, develop specialized skills, and be part of a growing healthcare organization driven by a mission to improve lives in meaningful ways.
