Job Description

Oak Street Health is a leading healthcare organization dedicated to transforming the way primary care is delivered, especially for older adults and those with complex health needs. As a company committed to value-based care, Oak Street Health focuses on providing comprehensive, personalized care through a team-based approach. The company leverages innovative clinical practices and data-driven insights to improve patient outcomes and reduce unnecessary hospital visits. With a mission to improve the health and well-being of underserved populations, Oak Street Health operates a network of clinics nationwide, staffed by dedicated healthcare professionals who prioritize compassionate, high-quality care. By fostering a positive work culture rooted in collaboration, innovation, and respect, Oak Street Health offers employees an enriching environment where they can develop their skills and grow their careers in healthcare.

The role of a Medical Scribe, also known as a Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS), at Oak Street Health is vital to supporting primary care providers by managing clinical documentation efficiently and accurately. This role allows providers to devote their full attention to delivering outstanding patient care without distraction. Medical Scribes work closely with their assigned providers throughout the patient care process, including participating in morning huddles to prepare for the day’s patients, accompanying providers during examinations to document patient encounters in real time, and assisting with follow-up tasks such as preparing after-visit summaries and closing care gaps.

Unlike traditional scribe roles, Oak Street Health’s CISs take on the critical responsibility of improving clinical documentation to enhance care quality and compliance. They become proficient in value-based care models, chronic disease management documentation, ICD-10 and CPT coding, and the use of population health data. Continuous on-the-job training equips Scribes with knowledge in clinical workflows, preventative care strategies, and team-based care principles. Because of the complexity and longevity of the position, Oak Street Health seeks individuals who can commit at least one to two years, making this an excellent opportunity for pre-med students or those pursuing careers in health informatics, public health, medical coding, or healthcare administration. The role is full-time, requiring approximately 40 hours per week during clinic hours, and offers a competitive pay range from $17.00 to $28.46 per hour, along with eligibility for bonuses and comprehensive benefits designed to support employee well-being and professional growth.
