The specific role available is for a Medical Receptionist within the VCH Med/Surg department. This role supports the delivery of patient care by providing essential clerical and receptionist services to patients, families, visitors, physicians, and staff. The Medical Receptionist plays a key part in facilitating an efficient workflow by supporting appropriate use of technology and fostering effective communication within the Patient Care Unit. This position operates with regular guidance and involves a variety of tasks including processing orders according to guidelines, maintaining accurate patient information in computer systems, and handling clerical tasks related to patient discharge and appointment scheduling.

Additionally, the Medical Receptionist is responsible for responding to patient calls and requests, using communication devices such as telephones, pagers, fax machines, and pneumatic tube systems to ensure smooth communication and the timely delivery of supplies. Maintaining a cost-effective supply ordering system and adhering to unit guidelines are vital components of the job. Job Duties

  • maintains unit log according to guidelines, makes follow-up appointments, and performs discharge related clerical tasks
  • responds to patient call system and patient requests providing clear, current information to families, visitors and staff
  • uses telephone, patient call system, beeper/paging system, fax/copy machine, scanning, unit specific monitoring devices, pneumatic tube system to facilitate flow of communication, equipment and supplies
  • orders, maintains and uses supplies in a cost effective manner
  • performs additional duties as assigned
