The role available is for a Medical Receptionist / Business Services Representative based at the Rocky Hill Access Center. This is a full-time, day-shift position focused on facilitating seamless patient flow and performing essential business functions within the medical practice. The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for patients, responsible for greeting and communicating with them both in person and over the phone in a professional and courteous manner. Key responsibilities include managing patient scheduling according to departmental protocols to optimize provider productivity, handling patient registration, verifying insurance information, collecting copays and point-of-service payments, as well as processing pre-certifications, prior authorizations, and referrals.

The role also encompasses vital clerical duties such as preparing charts, managing incoming and outgoing faxes, and providing administrative support to healthcare providers and staff. The position demands excellent keyboard and computer skills, proficiency in a Windows-based environment, and familiarity with Microsoft Office products to ensure accuracy and reliability in all tasks. Experience within a medical office or billing department, alongside knowledge of patient billing and medical terminology, is preferred to ensure efficiency and a smooth operational workflow.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience within a medical office or billing department preferred
  • Knowledge of patient billing and medical terminology preferred
  • Excellent keyboard skills

  • Accuracy and dependability required

Job Duties

  • Greets and communicates with patients via phone or in person in a courteous and professional manner identifying themselves and their department
  • Answers telephones in a timely, courteous, and professional manner utilizing appropriate scripting
  • Processes calls to ensure patients are transferred to the appropriate staff member/provider in a timely manner
  • Schedules patient appointments based on department protocols to maximize provider productivity
  • Performs patient registration and insurance verification
  • Collects copay and point of service payments
  • Manages pre-certifications, prior authorizations, and referrals
  • Prepares charts and manages incoming and outgoing faxes
  • Provides clerical support to providers and staff
