The role of Medical Receptionist in our busy General Surgery Adult Medicine Practice offers a significant opportunity to be part of a dynamic, high-energy team. This full-time, day-shift position is central to creating a welcoming and efficient frontline patient experience. The Medical Receptionist will manage multiple key front-desk responsibilities including appointment scheduling, insurance verification, copay collections, referral processing, prior authorizations, and patient registration. This role acts as the initial point of contact for patients, requiring excellent interpersonal communication skills to greet, interact with, and assist patients either over the phone or in person in a courteous, professional manner.

Additionally, the Medical Receptionist supports healthcare providers by preparing charts, managing both incoming and outgoing communications, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date records. This position demands a strong ability to handle a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with keen organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in a Windows-based computing environment and Microsoft Office is essential, along with excellent keyboarding abilities to ensure accuracy and dependability in all administrative functions.

The compensation for this position ranges from $17.50 to $23.80 per hour, dependent on experience, education, and skill level. The salary is offered on a full-time basis and aligns with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) for exempt positions. Job Requirements

  • Experience within a medical office or billing department preferred
  • Knowledge of patient billing and medical terminology preferred

Job Duties

  • Greets and communicates with patients via phone or in person in a courteous and professional manner identifying themselves and their department
  • Answers telephones in a timely, courteous, and professional manner utilizing appropriate scripting
  • Processes calls to ensure patients are transferred to the appropriate staff member or provider in a timely manner
  • Schedules patient appointments based on department protocols in order to maximize provider productivity
  • Handles appointment scheduling, insurance verification, copay collections, referrals, prior authorizations, and patient registration
  • Supports providers with chart preparation, incoming and outgoing communications, and maintaining accurate patient records
  • Maintains a smooth and welcoming experience for every patient
