Job Requirements
- High school graduate or GED
- One or more years experience as a receptionist preferably in an outpatient healthcare setting
- Experience with computers and automated scheduling preferred
- Prior experience handling and balancing cash preferred
- Knowledge of customer service principles
- Ability to operate business equipment and assist clerical needs
- Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and medical terminology
- General knowledge of healthcare insurance
- Ability to sort and file by alphabet or terminal digit
- Ability to handle cash transactions and balance drawers
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
- Bilingual in English and Spanish without interpreter
- Interpersonal and cultural sensitivity
- Proficiency with electronic medical records systems
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED

- Ability to perform and prioritize simultaneous tasks
- Bilingual in English and Spanish with ability to communicate without interpreter
- Demonstrated interpersonal and cultural sensitivity working with diverse and underserved populations
- Proficiency with electronic medical records systems (EMR)
Job Duties
- Graciously greet patients and visitors promptly and politely to the medical office and obtain all required information to register patient
- Assist patients in completing all forms and route those forms to the appropriate personnel or department
- Input registration demographic and insurance information into computer and review current registration information with patient updating as required
- Determine patient insurance eligibility and assist patient in selecting a primary care provider if one has not been selected
- Review provider schedules in advance to ensure pre-registration of new patients and send applicable packets prior to scheduled appointments
- Schedule patient visits including all required ICD-10 codes and confirm, cancel, or reschedule appointments notifying clinical staff of changes
- Inform clinical personnel when patients have arrived virtually or in clinic and route patient to appropriate clinical area
- Answer incoming telephone calls, route calls appropriately or take messages, and handle prescription refill requests per procedures
- Check patients out at end of visit, answer questions including simple billing questions, review charge tickets for accuracy, and prepare no-show letters
- Collect outstanding balances and required copayments, issue receipts, ensure cash security, and balance cash drawer at end of shift
- Assist in verifying and processing patient referrals and medical records requests as needed
- Open or close office ensuring security of doors and equipment and communicate any problems to supervisor
- Maintain front office workflows by following policies and procedures and support team efforts as needed
