The Medical Receptionist will be cross-trained to handle all front desk responsibilities including patient check-in and check-out, appointment scheduling, chart preparation, and operating telephones. Job Duties
- Schedules appointments
- obtains necessary patient information
- checks for past due balances
- enters appointment and insurance details into the system
- mails or faxes paperwork to new patients
- explains referral requirements to patients
- answers incoming phone calls and schedules appointments
- takes and forwards clinical staff messages
- provides callers with address and directions
- calls patients to remind them of upcoming appointments
- confirms insurance coverage and referrals
- cancels or reschedules appointments as necessary
- updates and maintains the White Book
- stays informed about managed care plans and referral requirements
- looks up patient chart numbers and EHR records
- maintains cleanliness and stocking of the reception area
- participates in staff meetings
- complies with HIPAA regulations and office policies
- assists other front desk roles as needed
- greets and checks in patients professionally
- verifies insurance authorizations
- keeps patients informed of delays
- checks out patients and collects payments
- operates the telephone system
- prepares charts and obtains insurance authorizations
- floats to different front desk roles as needed
