The Medical Receptionist / Business Services Representative role is an integral part of the Cardiology team located in Waterbury. This full-time position operates on a day shift schedule and offers excellent benefits that begin on day one, along with promising career growth and advancement opportunities. The individual in this role is essential to ensuring smooth patient flow within the practice by performing key business functions that support both the clinical staff and patients. Responsibilities include greeting and communicating with patients professionally either in person or by phone, handling appointment scheduling according to departmental protocols, managing patient registration, verifying insurance coverage, and processing copays and point-of-service collections.
Additional duties involve obtaining necessary pre-certifications and prior authorizations, managing referrals, preparing patient charts, and overseeing the flow of incoming and outgoing faxes. The role also encompasses providing vital clerical support to healthcare providers and administrative staff to facilitate efficient operations. Success in this position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, proficiency with Windows-based computer systems, and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience within a medical office or billing department preferred
- Knowledge of patient billing and medical terminology preferred
- Excellent keyboard skills
- Proficiency in a Windows-based computer environment and Microsoft Office products

Job Duties
- Greets and communicates with patients via phone or in person in a courteous and professional manner identifying themselves and their department
- Answers telephones in a timely, courteous, and professional manner utilizing appropriate scripting
- Processes calls to ensure patients are transferred to the appropriate staff member/provider in a timely manner
- Schedules patient appointments based on department protocols to maximize provider productivity
- Performs patient registration, insurance verification, and copay and point of service collections
- Obtains pre-certifications, prior authorizations, and manages referrals
- Prepares patient charts and manages incoming and outgoing faxes
- Provides clerical support to providers and staff
