Job Description
IHA Urgent Care and Virtual Care is a vital part of the healthcare network dedicated to delivering timely and efficient medical services to diverse patient populations. Operating during convenient hours from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 8 pm, and weekends from 8 am to 4 pm, the facility emphasizes accessibility and responsiveness to urgent healthcare needs. The organization prides itself on creating a positive service-oriented work environment that supports the mission and core values of both IHA and Trinity Health. The team is committed to providing exceptional care through a collaborative approach, incorporating cultural respect, patient confidentiality, and efficient workflow management. Employees benefit from shift differentials, receiving an additional $2 per hour during regular business hours and $4 per hour after 5 pm and weekends, recognizing the dedication needed to provide care during extended hours.
The Medical Receptionist I position is integral to the daily operations of IHA's urgent and virtual care settings. This full-time role involves being the first point of contact for patients and external customers arriving in person or reaching out by phone, playing a crucial liaison role between patients and medical staff. The receptionist’s responsibilities include greeting patients courteously, obtaining necessary registration information, verifying insurance eligibility, scheduling appointments, and facilitating efficient patient flow. By accurately completing patient forms, collecting payments, and ensuring precise billing processes, the receptionist supports the administrative functions critical to smooth healthcare delivery. The role demands professional communication skills, excellent organizational abilities, and proficiency in electronic medical record systems and office software.
Beyond the general reception duties, Medical Receptionists may have specialized responsibilities such as serving refugee patient populations, which includes providing language assistance, coordinating translation services with qualified medical interpreters, and acting as a key liaison among patients, service coordinators, and providers. Additionally, some receptionists may be involved in digital campaign efforts, handling patient applications and seminar registrations to support outreach programs.
This position upholds strict adherence to confidentiality standards, HIPAA guidelines, and organizational policies ensuring patient privacy and data security. It also requires the ability to work effectively within a team, adapt to new responsibilities, and maintain a high level of service and respect for patients and colleagues. The role offers an opportunity for professional growth through ongoing training and competency development, ensuring reception staff remain up to date with best practices and healthcare standards.
Medical Receptionists at IHA operate in an office environment that necessitates adaptability given occasional exposures to contagious diseases and interaction with vulnerable patient populations who may be experiencing stress, illness, or injury. The job includes physical demands such as keyboarding, filing, occasional walking and standing, and the need to communicate effectively in English over the phone or face-to-face. The position also requires the ability to travel between office locations as needed.
Overall, the Medical Receptionist I role is a pivotal administrative position ensuring the facility functions efficiently while maintaining a compassionate, patient-centered approach to urgent and virtual healthcare delivery. The facility offers a supportive work culture with competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and the chance to make a meaningful impact on community health.
