Job Requirements

  • Medical Assistant certification
  • CPR certified
  • Demonstrates knowledge of HIV medical terminology, procedures, medications and accepted treatment practices
  • Demonstrates knowledge of OSHA rules, regulations and mandates
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with patients, visitors and staff members
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques, be a self-starter, work effectively, be organized and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures
  • Bi-lingual preferred
  • Neat, professional appearance
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients
  • Exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 20 lbs. of force frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects, including the human body
  • Involves sitting, walking, and standing for brief periods
  • Requires expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word, visual and auditory acuity
  • Must be able to pass a Level I background check and possibly Level II
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening

Job Duties

  • Promote and practice CAN Community Health's mission, vision, and values
  • Greet and assist patients with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Accurately collect, process and post patient payments, including co-pays, deductibles and outstanding balances
  • Verify and update patient insurance information and eligibility during check-in
  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments, managing any necessary follow-up for missing documentation
  • Assist with other front desk duties including answering phones and managing patient paperwork
  • Accurately learn EMR system, must pass audits and SME testing with 95% accuracy
  • Ensure all patient insurance has been verified
  • Run and reconcile end of day reports against daily collections and POS reporting
  • Coordinate patient transportation
  • Review and address assigned tasks in EMR i.e.: telephone encounters, actions and assigned buckets
  • Assist with check out and other administrative/clerical tasks
  • Maintain adequate stock of office/breakroom supplies
  • Maintain confidentiality in full accordance with HIPAA
  • Performs medical intake procedures including vital signs and history
  • Performs complete patient evaluation and assessment
  • Records and reports symptoms, reactions, treatments and changes in patient conditions
  • Performs immunizations as directed by the physician
  • Practice safe phlebotomy skills using standard precautions
  • Documents all patient care in an accurate and timely manner
  • Completes all medical prior authorization and documentation requirements
  • Maintains temperature logs for all clinic refrigerators containing specimens and medications
  • Practices safety, environmental and/or infection control methods
  • Assists with referrals and coordinates services with other organizations, federal and local programs
  • Collaborate with clinic team members to coordinate patient services
  • Promote and practice CAN's values and mission and adhere to all policies and procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patient and/or family in accordance with professional and departmental standards
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement of services rendered to CAN clients
  • Develop and foster networking relationships with community and support resources
  • Utilize resources and supplies in a cost-effective manner
  • Demonstrate courtesy, compassion and respect in all interpersonal relationships with CAN clients, staff and visitors
  • Maintain professional manner in all aspects of job tasks
