Job Description

Medical Education & Research Institute (MERI) is a reputable non-profit organization committed to advancing medical knowledge and surgical training. Located centrally in Memphis, Tennessee, MERI provides essential bi-skills lab environments that serve healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, and related practitioners nationwide and internationally. With a significant focus on hands-on, state-of-the-art training, MERI excels in creating immersive educational experiences in various medical fields. Their unique partnership with the Genesis Legacy Whole Body Donation Foundation enables them to offer exclusive access to whole body donations for educational and medical research purposes, enhancing the realism and quality of their training programs. MERI’s operations are both local and mobile, enabling offsite educational events at diverse venues including hospitals, convention centers, and hotels. The organization is presently expanding its mobile support capabilities to meet the evolving demands in the medical industry, aiming to bring advanced training to multiple locations across the central United States and beyond, including Alaska and Hawaii.

The Medical Event Specialist - Traveling/Transportation/Driving role is a key position within MERI’s mobile support department. This role demands adventurous and energetic individuals passionate about supporting the medical education industry while traveling frequently. As a Mobile Transport Specialist, you will be responsible for the logistics of transporting, setting up, and assisting during medical training events involving surgical labs and cadaveric tissue. Tasks include driving MERI-owned vehicles such as box trucks or sprinter vans, or flying as required to various event locations. This role requires physical stamina and coordination to unload surgical and medical equipment like tables, lighting, x-ray machinery, instruments, and personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as handling delicate cadaveric tissue with care.

You will work closely with healthcare professionals, providing hands-on assistance during the training events, ensuring the environments are properly set up and maintained. At the conclusion of events, responsibilities include tearing down the setup, cleaning, repacking, and reloading equipment to prepare for transportation back to MERI. This role is not only critical to the success of these training programs but also offers a unique opportunity to engage directly with cutting-edge medical training technologies and methodologies.

No prior medical experience is necessary as MERI offers comprehensive training in bioskills techniques and driving larger transport vehicles. The organization will also sponsor training and licensing for Class-B Commercial Driver’s Licenses, which is mandatory for driving vehicles over a certain size. This opportunity is ideal for individuals interested in biosciences, anatomy, and medical education logistics, with a strong emphasis on safe driving practices and reliability during travel. The position involves frequent travel, with about 75% of the time spent outside of Memphis, TN, often for 1-2 day events plus travel days before and after events, making flexibility and availability crucial.

The compensation package offers a starting wage of $18.72 per hour ($21.72 for those with Class-B CDL), plus $5 per hour travel pay during events or travel days, a $69 daily meal per diem, overtime pay at 1.5 times the hourly rate, and performance-based annual bonuses and merit raises. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurances, plus a 401(k) plan with employer match. This combination of travel, hands-on work, and meaningful contribution to medical education makes it a rewarding career opportunity with professional growth potential.
