Job Description
Cardea Health is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing compassionate health care to marginalized populations. Their mission centers on creating and supporting programs that protect the health and autonomy of vulnerable individuals while promoting equity and social justice to enhance the overall well-being of the entire community. They provide essential medical support specifically tailored for populations experiencing homelessness, a group often overlooked yet profoundly in need of comprehensive healthcare resources and advocacy.
At the heart of Cardea Health’s philosophy is a commitment to diversity and inclusion within the workplace. The organization actively seeks to include underrepresented communities as part of its team, believing that diversity fuels innovation and fosters a dynamic, inclusive, and productive environment. This dedication to equitable hiring leads to opportunities for professional growth and advancement for individuals from varied backgrounds, enriching the organization with unique perspectives, experiences, and talents. Prospective applicants are invited to be part of a team that reflects the rich diversity of society and is passionate about making a positive social impact.
The primary location for this role is Natalie’s Place, one of several transitional housing programs under Cardea Health that serves medically complex and behaviorally vulnerable unhoused individuals in Fremont. Natalie’s Place functions as a critical support system, collaborating closely with referring partners across Alameda County. It provides a wide array of supportive services such as onsite nursing and caregiving, transportation to medical appointments, nutritious meals, housing navigation, placement assistance, and various wraparound services designed to promote stability, recovery, and long-term housing success.
We are currently seeking professional, punctual, and responsible individuals to join our team as drivers within this medically supported shelter program. This role requires working as part of a multidisciplinary team that serves people experiencing homelessness who are recovering from recent hospitalizations, injuries, or illnesses. The drivers are instrumental in ensuring the safe and timely transport of new clients to the shelter at the time of referral, as well as transporting established clients to and from medical appointments and procedures. Working closely with shelter nurses and housing staff, drivers play an essential role in facilitating quality care and timely services for shelter residents.
The ideal candidate will have the ability and desire to engage respectfully and professionally with a diverse client base. The position demands someone who is trustworthy, detail-oriented, and capable of collaborating effectively with clinical staff. Responsibilities include coordinating with clinical staff to schedule transportation, ensuring the safety of clients during transit, conducting vehicle inspections and maintenance, supporting food transportation needs, and maintaining accurate communication about client location and status. Confidentiality and boundary-setting with clients are crucial to maintaining a professional and supportive environment.
This role involves hands-on participation in emergency protocol activation where necessary and supporting clinical staff with daily non-medical tasks during downtime. Adhering to harm reduction principles, the driver also contributes to a respectful, dignified treatment environment for all residents. Cardea Health provides employees in this role with eligibility for a range of benefits including medical, dental, vision insurance, paid leave, retirement plans, commuter benefits, and more. This position is a vital component of the broader mission to improve health outcomes and promote social justice for underserved communities through compassionate and comprehensive care.
