Job Description
Channel Islands Veterinary Hospital, located in Port Hueneme, California, is a well-established and community-loved veterinary care provider that has been serving pet owners since 1987. Known for fostering long-term relationships with clients while warmly welcoming new ones, this hospital operates with a focus on delivering high-quality veterinary medicine accompanied by a compassionate and supportive environment for both staff and patients. As part of National Veterinary Associates (NVA), a leading global pet care organization committed to improving the lives of pets and the people who love them, Channel Islands Veterinary Hospital benefits from a national network of resources, technology, and mentorship opportunities, enhancing the ability of its medical professionals to practice medicine their way and grow in their careers. The hospital offers a friendly work culture where humor and fun are encouraged, and where modern, top-of-the-line equipment including digital x-rays, dental x-rays, and ultrasound ensures smooth daily operations for veterinary teams.
The hospital is now seeking a Medical Director ready to embrace a unique and fulfilling role blending hands-on medical practice with leadership responsibilities. This position offers a generous compensation package ranging from $150,000 to $200,000 annually, based on experience, alongside a $50,000+ sign-on bonus with additional retention bonuses. It provides a flexible schedule with a four-day workweek, closed on Sundays and holidays, supporting a healthy work-life balance ideal for enjoying the stunning California coastline and the recreational opportunities of nearby Channel Islands National Park. The Medical Director will work closely with a Hospital Manager to lead and manage the site, cultivating an environment where staff members are engaged, motivated, and empowered to perform their best. A distinctive feature of this role is the opportunity for joint ownership with future buy-in potential, allowing the successful candidate to have a direct stake in the growth and success of the hospital.
Channel Islands Veterinary Hospital sets high professional and personal standards, seeking a candidate who adores their patients, enjoys meaningful client interactions, and actively supports their team. The ideal Medical Director approaches challenges with grace, provides constructive feedback for improvement, and continuously pursues professional development. The hospital commits to supporting ongoing education, investing in new equipment and medications, and fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and continuous learning. With one technician, one assistant, and one client service representative scheduled per doctor daily, the hospital ensures an optimal staff-to-doctor ratio to allow high-quality veterinary care. Beyond its clinical excellence, the hospital’s location offers a vibrant coastal community life with beach activities, cultural events, dining, wine tours, and much more.
Part of the NVA network, the selected candidate will benefit from comprehensive health care, dental and vision insurance, a 401K plan with company match, and paid time off including sick leave. NVA is committed to equal opportunity employment and a fair, supportive, and transparent recruitment process. Applicants can expect verified and secure communication channels throughout their application experience. This is a rare opportunity to not only impact animal health positively but also grow into a leadership role with substantial support and potential ownership benefits. Interested candidates are encouraged to visit the website and apply today to join a dedicated team passionate about advancing veterinary care and enriching lives in a stunning coastal California setting.
