Job Description

UCI Health is the clinical enterprise of the University of California, Irvine, and stands as the only academic health system based in Orange County, California. It encompasses the main campus, UCI Medical Center, which is a 459-bed acute care hospital located in Orange, California. UCI Health extends its reach through four hospitals and affiliated physician networks within Orange and Los Angeles counties, along with multiple ambulatory care centers spread across the region. The organization is recognized for excellence in the medical community and has been listed among America's Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report for an impressive 23 consecutive years. This recognition stems from UCI Medical Center’s advanced capabilities, including providing tertiary and quaternary care services, hosting Orange County's only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center, and offering specialized programs such as the high-risk perinatal/neonatal program.

UCI Medical Center is also home to the American College of Surgeons-verified Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma centers, a gold level 1 geriatric emergency department, and a regional burn center. Serving nearly 4 million people across Orange County, western Riverside County, and southeast Los Angeles County, UCI Health represents a major healthcare provider committed to delivering cutting-edge health care services, integrating medical education and research to foster innovations in patient care.

The Senior Food Service Associate position at UCI Health plays a vital role within the Food Services Department and reports directly to the Food Services Manager. This role involves working across several operational areas including the kitchen, cafeteria, dishroom, and/or patient service areas. The Senior Food Service Associate is responsible for performing a diverse range of food service duties such as meal assembly, service, delivery, catering functions, dishwashing, sanitation, and safety practices. Additionally, this role supports the training of new Food Service Workers to ensure consistent quality and adherence to established standards.

This position requires someone with comprehensive knowledge and skills in food preparation and service, along with a firm understanding of kitchen sanitary control techniques to maintain an environment that upholds the highest standards of hygiene and patient safety at all times. Working within a dynamic healthcare setting entails flexibility as the Senior Food Service Associate must be able to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the hospital and community it serves. Strong communication skills are essential as the role involves following oral and written instructions and collaborating effectively with colleagues across the health system to deliver an outstanding food service experience.

At UCI Health, employees are afforded many benefits, including medical insurance, sick and vacation leave, retirement savings plans, and access to various discounts and perks that collectively contribute to a rewarding work environment. The University of California, Irvine, actively promotes a safe, healthy, and inclusive workplace, ensuring all employees comply with background checks, employment misconduct disclosures, vaccination policies, and other related employment standards. UCI Health emphasizes diversity, equity, and inclusion, fostering a welcoming environment for all team members.
