The Medical Assistant/Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for patients, greeting them warmly in person and over the phone. Responsibilities include verifying insurance, collecting payments, managing patient records, scheduling appointments, and assisting clinical staff during patient visits. The position also involves preparing patients for examination, obtaining vital signs, collecting laboratory specimens including observed urine collections, and ensuring accurate documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, specifically Athena EMR.

Job Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant school with a high school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
- Effective communication skills

Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Welcoming and greeting patients in person and by telephone
- Verifying patient insurance
- Collecting co-pays and co-insurance payments
- Updating demographics and insurance information in the EMR
- Obtaining prior authorizations and referrals
- Obtaining appropriate Release of Information signatures
- Answering phone calls with proper telephone etiquette
- Recording messages and ensuring proper delivery
- Maintaining a clean and HIPAA-compliant reception area
- Facilitating patient flow and notifying providers of patient arrival
- Scheduling and canceling appointments
- Calling patients for urine drug screening
- Directing issues to designated administrator or provider
- Preparing patients for examination
- Assisting providers during appointments
- Collecting and preparing lab specimens including observed urine collection
- Obtaining vital signs like blood pressure and oxygen saturation
- Generating lab orders within Athena EMR
- Printing requisitions for blood work
- Managing supply inventory and coordinating deliveries
- Tracking and assigning unassigned lab reports daily
