The Medical Assistant position in the Maternal Fetal Medicine department at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix offers an exciting opportunity to work within the Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) department, specifically serving the University Medicine Women's Institute. This role is pivotal in delivering outstanding patient care in a comprehensive women’s health setting, focusing on prenatal care, delivery support, gynecological treatments, and other specialty services. The position is full-time with a day shift schedule from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, promoting a balanced work-life routine without weekend duties. An $80 allowance for scrubs is included in compensation.
As a Medical Assistant on this team, you will play an integral role in the patient experience at Banner by providing excellent customer service and direct patient care. Responsibilities include rooming patients, taking vitals, assisting with procedures, documenting patient information accurately in electronic medical records, and supporting administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, handling phone communications, and managing referrals. The role also involves assisting in managing patient care coordination, ordering supplies, and maintaining a clean and functional clinical environment.
Banner supports career growth and education opportunities for Medical Assistants, offering resources for certification and tuition reimbursement to advance within the medical career ladder. Uncertified Medical Assistants are welcomed and given 12 months to obtain national certification, with study materials provided and certification costs covered by Banner. Certification achievement will lead to pay increases and further career development opportunities.
This role demands strong multitasking skills, a positive and energetic attitude, reliability, and a team-oriented mindset. Previous experience in Medical Assisting, especially in women’s health, is preferred but not required. The position requires competency in computer skills, familiarity with medical software, and excellent interpersonal communication abilities. You will work directly under the supervision of healthcare providers and interact with patients, families, physicians, and various healthcare departments, ensuring a high-quality, coordinated care experience.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations
- Active Medical Assistant certification required
- BLS certification required
- Strong computer and multitasking skills
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a team environment
- Willingness to work Monday through Friday day shift
- Ability to comply with all relevant health and safety regulations
- For some behavioral health settings, possession of Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of an approved medical assistant training program
- Active Medical Assistant certification such as RMA, CMA, CCMA, or NCMA with proof of current membership
- BLS certification
- Strong computer skills including experience with medical software
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Experience with office medical procedures and treatments preferred
- Knowledge of insurance, managed care, EMR, and scheduling software preferred
- Additional related education or experience preferred
Job Duties
- Prepare patients for exam and treatment by taking and recording vital signs and symptoms
- Assist providers with exams and minor in-office procedures including phlebotomies, ear irrigation, and EKGs
- Coordinate and manage patient care including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, and scheduling
- Provide clerical support including patient notifications and documentation management
- Maintain clean and functional clinical environment including equipment sterilization and stocking supplies
- Order supplies and manage medication-related tasks such as handling expired items
- Develop and maintain effective communication with patients, clinicians, and other healthcare staff
- Complete onboarding and orientation activities including simulation training as required
