Job Description

Banner University Medical Center Phoenix is a nationally recognized academic medical center dedicated to patient care, research, and teaching. As a prominent part of Banner - University Medicine, the center is committed to providing top-tier healthcare services, fostering medical research advancements, and training the next generation of healthcare professionals. Located in Phoenix, Arizona, this world-class hospital features over 730 licensed beds and multiple specialty units, serving the diverse medical needs of the metropolitan area. It operates integrated multi-specialty and sub-specialty clinics and collaborates closely with the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix, enabling a robust environment for medical discoveries. Banner Health is widely respected for its commitment to nursing excellence, having achieved Magnet™ recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, which highlights its dedication to superior patient care and professional nursing practice.

This particular role is with the Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) department at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix, also known as the University Medicine Women’s Institute. The department offers comprehensive services focused on women’s health, including prenatal care, delivery, gynecological care, and other specialty treatments. As a Medical Assistant within this team, you will play a critical role in enhancing the patient experience by delivering exceptional customer service and clinical support. Your responsibilities will include rooming patients, taking vital signs, assisting with medical procedures, and maintaining accurate and timely updates to electronic medical records. When not providing direct care, you will support administrative functions such as scheduling, answering phones, managing referrals, and maintaining office supplies.

This role is full-time, with a day shift schedule working Monday through Friday on a 4-day 10-hour shift pattern. It comes with an $80 allowance for scrubs and opportunities for ongoing education and career advancement. Uncertified Medical Assistants are welcome to apply but must obtain national certification within 12 months of employment, with Banner providing study materials and covering certification costs. Achieving certification also results in a pay increase, reflecting the organization’s commitment to professional growth.

The position demands excellent multitasking and communication skills, a positive attitude, reliability, and the ability to work collaboratively across the department's various subspecialties. Experience with women’s health and prior medical assistant experience is preferred. Given the nature of our multi-facility operations, travel between locations in Phoenix may be required. Banner’s academic environment offers exceptional opportunities for professional development, including tuition reimbursement and clear pathways for career progression from Medical Assistant to Registered Nurse and beyond.

At Banner University Medical Center Phoenix, Medical Assistants are crucial in preparing patients for exams by collecting vital signs and updating records, assisting clinicians with procedures like phlebotomy and EKGs, coordinating and managing patient care logistics, and maintaining a safe and clean environment that complies with OSHA standards. You will also be responsible for clerical duties necessary for efficient clinic operations and insurance processes. This role embodies a blend of clinical and administrative duties, making it suitable for individuals who are organized, detail-oriented, and dedicated to patient-centered service in a dynamic academic healthcare setting.
