The Medical Assistant role within St. Charles Health System is pivotal to ensuring smooth patient flow and efficient clinic operations across multiple locations. This position supports physicians by managing various clinical and administrative duties which require a strong knowledge base, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to work closely with both clinical and non-clinical teams. The position reports directly to the Clinic Supervisor or Manager and is vital in providing comprehensive and compassionate health care to the community. The Medical Assistant is responsible for preparing patients for physician assessments, recording and maintaining accurate patient medical data, performing physician-requested ancillary and surgical procedures (excluding IV medication administration), and assisting with communication between patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.

This role emphasizes professional accountability and adherence to all healthcare regulations, including HIPAA compliance. Medical Assistants in this role are champions of continuous improvement, supporting Lean principles within the organization to enhance operational efficiency. They ensure that the healthcare environment remains safe for caregivers, patients, and guests while providing top-tier customer service that promotes goodwill and trust. Working primarily first shift hours with a variable schedule from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM across a 40-hour workweek, this position offers a competitive pay range between $24.93 and $31.91 per hour. Additionally, relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates who meet certain experience criteria and have not worked at St. Charles Health System within the past year.

The ideal candidate must hold a high school diploma or GED and preferably graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program. Mandatory certification is required, whether from recognized national medical assistant associations such as AMT, NCCT, AAMA, NAHP, or NHA, or through equivalent licensure such as Oregon LPN or RN. Candidates with NHA certification based on work experience must have at least one year of relevant medical assistant experience, while two years of experience is preferred for other applicants. Job Requirements

  • Must have basic knowledge of ICD-10, CM/CPT/HCPCS coding conventions and procedures
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and meet all HIPAA requirements
  • Current MA Certification from AMT, NCCT, AAMA, NAHP, NHA or licensure as Oregon LPN, RN, or EMT
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment required to perform job safely
  • Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Preferred: Two years of Medical Assisting experience

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current MA Certification from AMT, NCCT, AAMA, NAHP, NHA or licensure as Oregon LPN or RN
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification
  • Basic knowledge of ICD-10, CM/CPT/HCPCS coding conventions and procedures
  • Working knowledge of medical practice management information systems
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and meet all HIPAA requirements
  • Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Preferred: Two years of Medical Assisting experience

Job Duties

  • Escorts patients to exam rooms and prep for physician assessment
  • Records and maintains patient's medical data in patient's medical chart
  • Assists physician with answering phone requests from patients and/or other medical professionals and institutions
  • Performs a variety of physician-requested ancillary and/or surgical patient procedures (excluding administration of IV medication)
  • Maintains equipment, instruments supply inventory levels
  • Supports the vision, mission, and values of the organization in all respects
  • Supports Lean principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm
