Job Description

This opportunity is with a well-established medical practice located at 17901 Governors Highway, Suite 102 in Homewood, Illinois. Operating Monday through Friday with no nights, weekends, or observed holidays required, the practice provides a balanced work schedule to its employees. The starting pay range is $20.00 to $23.00 per hour, coupled with a competitive benefits package including paid time off, holiday pay, and comprehensive health benefits.

The role available is for a Medical Assistant who will primarily support the delivery of urological services. This important position involves multiple administrative and clinical responsibilities essential to maintaining efficient operations and ensuring optimal patient care within the practice. The Medical Assistant acts as an integral team member who collaborates closely with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals across affiliated medical groups to facilitate seamless patient care delivery and improve health outcomes.

Key duties include greeting patients and preparing them for examinations, recording vital signs, patient histories, and chief complaints, and educating patients on medications, disease management, and home care protocols. The Medical Assistant supports physicians during examinations and procedures, performs phlebotomy and lab specimen collection, conducts basic lab tests, and performs EKGs. They also assist with X-rays and therapeutic procedures, prepare and administer medications under physician authorization, and manage wound care tasks such as changing dressings and removing sutures.

Administrative responsibilities encompass scheduling patient appointments, maintaining patient logs, managing prescription records, ensuring thorough and legible medical documentation, and preparing the office for the day’s patient visits. This role demands compliance with healthcare regulations, medical laws, and ethical standards while adhering to organizational policies, HIPAA regulations, and accreditation requirements including OSHA and CMS guidelines.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently, and strong communication skills. They will be proficient with electronic medical records (EMR), practice management software, Microsoft Office applications, and have the capability to handle vendor relations and database management as necessary. This role requires a patient-centered approach delivering exceptional service throughout all interactions and respecting cultural diversity within the organization.

Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant is preferred, with at least six months of experience working within a physician’s office environment. Experience in urology is desired but not mandatory. Minimal travel is required for this position. Physical demands include frequent carrying and occasional lifting of weights generally not exceeding 50 pounds, with occasional pushing and pulling. Job Duties

  • Perform various administrative and clinical duties under supervisor direction
  • Confer with physicians, nursing, and staff to coordinate and schedule patient appointments
  • Greet and prepare patients for examinations
  • Measure and record vital signs
  • Record patient interviews, histories, and chief complaints
  • Provide patient education regarding medications, disease management, and home treatments
  • Perform routine screening tests
  • Assist physicians with exams and procedures
  • Perform phlebotomy and lab specimen collection
  • Conduct basic laboratory tests
  • Perform EKGs
  • Assist with X-ray and physician therapy procedures
  • Prepare and administer medications with physician authorization
  • Change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, and perform other first aid
  • Use CPR skills when necessary
  • Prepare accurate, legal, and ethical documentation
  • Open and close the office
  • Maintain patient logs including lab requests, CT scans, and treatment orders
  • Manage prescription ledger
  • Ensure good back office flow and assist with room turnover
  • Perform new patient thorough work-ups
  • Update patient medical histories
  • Perform accurate room set-up for physicians
  • Update patient medications before visits
  • Manage in-office surgical procedure set-ups
  • Ensure proper completion of consent forms
  • Scribe as assigned
  • Prepare for next day patient visits and confirm appointments
  • Complete patient medical record requests
  • Assist in orientation and training of new personnel
