The role of the Medical Assistant at Capital Health is vital in supporting licensed independent practitioners (LIP) and enhancing patient care within various outpatient settings. This position focuses on preparing exam rooms for patient encounters, assisting providers during examinations, and facilitating a smooth clinical workflow. Key responsibilities include guiding patients to examination rooms, aiding them in preparation for exams, recording vital signs and medical history, and assisting with medication reconciliation. The Medical Assistant is also responsible for managing clerical duties such as patient registration, billing, answering phones, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate medical records. Additional tasks involve equipment cleaning and disinfection, assisting with patient equipment downloads, and helping patients complete essential paperwork. Cross-training opportunities are available to perform patient reception duties as needed. Capital Health emphasizes infection control and proper documentation aligned with standardized protocols. The position may require working across multiple Capital Health Medical Group practices, both in primary and specialty care offices. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • two years of work experience as a medical assistant, EMT or other direct patient care related role
  • current nursing student with completion of two clinical semesters from an accredited nursing program considered
  • AHA BLS certification required
  • non-licensed must obtain BLS before end of orientation period
  • excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills
  • knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures
  • ability to document and maintain patient care records
  • knowledge of vital signs, medical terminology, basic computer and data entry skills
  • medical record management
  • 8 hour usual work day

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • two years of direct patient care experience such as medical assistant or EMT
  • current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with two completed clinical semesters considered
  • certification in AHA BLS
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • familiarity with medical terminology
  • proficiency in patient record documentation
  • knowledge of vital signs measurement
  • computer literacy including electronic medical record systems
  • ability to perform clinical and clerical tasks accurately
  • knowledge of infection control protocols

Job Duties

  • Prepares exam rooms for patient encounters and assists LIP as requested
  • directs patients to examination rooms
  • assists in preparing patients for examination
  • assists patients in undressing, dressing and getting on and off of the examination table
  • notifies provider of patient’s arrival and readiness for their examination
  • assists providers with patient examinations
  • reviews charts prior to patients' scheduled appointment to assure that all requested lab work and diagnostic procedures have been completed and that reports have been returned and are accessible to the provider
  • records medical history, current medications, treatments, and problem list accurately
  • obtains and records patient vital signs, temperature, pulse, blood pressure and reason for visit
  • assists with patient equipment downloads, utilizing a variety of medical device software programs and printing appropriate reports for LIP review accurately and in a timely manner
  • assists with medication reconciliation process, reviewing and accurately documenting patient medications
  • accurately and efficiently performs all clerical duties as needed, including patient registration, billing, answering phones, scheduling appointments, and initiating, maintaining and filing medical records
  • assists with equipment cleaning, disinfection, and pasteurization, documenting appropriately according to standardized protocols
  • disseminates and communicates accurate patient information appropriate to the patient’s disorder
  • accurately inputs data in the registration, electronic medical record, database and scheduling systems according to established procedures
  • assists patients to complete essential paperwork and questionnaires
  • assures exam rooms are cleaned after each patient and appropriately stocked with necessary supplies, equipment and forms
  • practices proper infection control techniques
  • cross-trained to perform Patient Reception Rep job duties as needed
  • performs other selected clinical and clerical duties that assist in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management within any CH office location under the direction of a provider and manager in accordance with Capital Health policies and relevant state laws
  • performs other duties as assigned
  • may be assigned to other Capital Health Medical Group Practices as needed
