Job Description
Lowe's Companies, Inc. is a leading FORTUNE 100 home improvement company renowned for providing exceptional products and services that help millions of customers enhance and maintain their homes. With more than 1,700 home improvement stores, 530 branches, and 130 distribution centers across the United States, Lowe's is a significant player in the retail home improvement industry. Headquartered in Mooresville, North Carolina, Lowe's operates with a mission to support the communities it serves through multiple initiatives including creating safe and affordable housing, improving community spaces, developing skilled trade professionals, and offering disaster relief. Employing approximately 300,000 associates nationwide, Lowe's emphasizes a culture of inclusion, safety, and ongoing development to ensure a positive working environment for its team members.
This particular opportunity is for the role of Maintenance Mechanic I within one of Lowe's Regional Distribution Centers (RDC). The Maintenance Mechanic I plays a critical role in maintaining and repairing equipment to ensure seamless operation and safety at the RDC. This is a hands-on position requiring a knowledgeable and experienced repair technician who specializes in one of three key areas: conveyors, rolling stock, or building systems. Individuals in this role are expected to have specialist knowledge and complex repair capabilities in their specialty area, as well as general knowledge and basic repair skills in the other two areas to maintain flexibility and adaptability on the job.
The Maintenance Mechanic I integrates their trade skills, classroom instruction, and practical systems experience to diagnose equipment issues effectively and determine appropriate repair actions. Their responsibilities include prioritizing and planning maintenance work, ordering necessary spare parts, and executing repairs independently and safely. Working closely with Maintenance Utility personnel, the Maintenance Mechanic I provides mentorship while also knowing when to seek guidance from more experienced Maintenance Mechanic II staff or supervisors.
The role demands proficiency in both electrical and mechanical systems with safety as a top priority, including adherence to lock-out/tag-out protocols and the use of personal protective equipment. Maintaining valid certifications and compliance with local and state regulations is essential. The Maintenance Mechanic I also participates in ongoing training and development to enhance skills within their specialty and to broaden expertise in other maintenance areas, including conveyor systems, industrial electrical systems, HVAC, fire suppression, welding, plumbing, carpentry, and material handling.
Beyond the technical aspects, this role requires excellent communication skills to effectively interact with maintenance customers and team members, documenting work accurately in computerized maintenance management systems, and ensuring all maintenance worksite procedures are followed and left in good order. Lowe’s supports the growth and advancement of their maintenance team by offering resources and training to develop expertise and contribute meaningfully to operational excellence within their distribution centers. This position offers the chance to be part of a diverse, community-oriented company with a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.
