The role of Maintenance Mechanic I at Lowe's is critical for maintaining the operational efficiency and safety of equipment in the Regional Distribution Centers (RDCs). This position requires a specialized knowledge base, with the candidate possessing expertise in one of three key areas: conveyors, rolling stock, or building maintenance. Furthermore, Maintenance Mechanic I also maintains a general understanding and basic repair skills in the other two areas, which ensures comprehensive coverage of maintenance responsibilities across the RDC. With sufficient electrical and mechanical knowledge, the professional will independently perform repairs while ensuring adherence to safety standards. This role demands the integration of practical trade skills, theoretical knowledge gained through training, and hands-on experience with RDC systems. Maintenance Mechanic I is expected to recognize and diagnose equipment issues accurately, plan and prioritize repair tasks, procure appropriate spare parts, and execute repairs efficiently. Additionally, mentoring responsibilities include guiding Maintenance Utility personnel and collaborating with Maintenance Mechanic II or the Maintenance Supervisor when advanced assistance is required. Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or GED
  • 2 years of experience in his/her specialty area
  • combination of experience and/or technical training in electrical/electronic theory up to 600 volts systems or willingness to obtain appropriate training within 1 year of employment
  • valid state driver’s license
  • if required by local regulations, certified to perform work at the Maintenance Mechanic level

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or GED
  • general studies or technical school graduate or equivalent years of experience in lieu of education requirement
  • 2 years of experience in his/her specialty area
  • combination of experience and/or technical training in electrical/electronic theory ranging up to 600 volts systems or willingness to obtain appropriate training within 1 year of employment
  • valid state driver’s license
  • if required by local regulations, certified to perform work at the Maintenance Mechanic level
  • experience and/or certification with welding and fabrication
  • experience operating various maintenance and operations vehicles and equipment
  • experience reading blueprints, schematics, and other technical drawings
  • certification for electrical work and/or high voltage work

Job Duties

  • enters data into 7I system (computerized maintenance management system)
  • closes out work orders and preventative maintenance requests
  • informs next shift of remaining work
  • provides status of incomplete tasks bridging the two shifts
  • demonstrates positive and effective communications with maintenance customers
  • serves as an expert in two of the following specialty areas: conveyors, rolling stock, or building
  • within specialty areas: diagnoses, plans, and repairs complex equipment failures with minimal guidance from maintenance mechanic II and supervisors
  • outside of specialty areas: diagnoses, plans, and executes basic repairs
  • attends and participate in training as scheduled
  • continues to increase skill in his/her specialty area and learns and develops a working knowledge of the repair methods for the other work areas including conveyor systems, controls, and subsystems
  • industrial electrical systems

  • fork lift and material handling systems, including subsystems and components of the equipment
