The company operates numerous locations and offers a wide range of services, including cremation, burial, and memorial products, all designed to meet the unique needs of the communities they serve. With a focus on outstanding customer service and operational excellence, Forest Lawn maintains high standards in every aspect of its operations, including facilities management and maintenance.
The role of a Mechanic and Equipment Maintenance Technician at Forest Lawn is critical in ensuring that the company’s fleet of vehicles and equipment are maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency. This position requires a seasoned professional with proficiency in diagnostic and repair work on gasoline and diesel-powered engines, as well as expertise in mechanical systems such as drive trains, electrical, hydraulic, suspension, steering, fuel, emission, and computer systems. The mechanic will perform both preventative and corrective maintenance on a diverse range of vehicles including automobiles, vans, trucks of varying sizes, and light-to-medium construction and agricultural equipment.
This role involves a broad spectrum of technical duties including cutting, soldering, brazing, and welding various metals, along with the maintenance and repair of heating and air-conditioning systems. The position also entails performing occasional vehicle wash activities encompassing interior vacuuming, exterior scrubbing and washing, and steam cleaning of engines and related mechanical components. The candidate will also assist with machinist activities, fabricating parts such as bushings and sleeves, and contribute to refurbishing or constructing specialized vehicles and equipment.
Applicants for this position should be prepared to consult with customers to understand vehicle issues, analyze work orders and technical manuals, conduct routine safety inspections, and follow manufacturer specifications closely. The role demands expertise in replacing and repairing parts like filters, brake systems, steering axles, brake pads, and belts. Skills in diagnostic testing using advanced tools like engine analyzers and computerized diagnostic devices are essential, as are the abilities to maintain shop equipment and perform machining operations on a variety of metals.
Forest Lawn expects its mechanic to not only perform high-quality work but also to maintain a safe work environment, manage materials efficiently, and maintain accurate records and time reports. The role also requires a commitment to ongoing skill development and keeping abreast of technological advancements in automotive and equipment repair. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a passion for mechanical work and a desire to contribute meaningfully to an organization dedicated to service excellence. Employment with Forest Lawn comes with competitive benefits and the chance to work with a respected leader in the funeral services industry. Applicants should be aware that a combination of trade school education, ASE certifications, and relevant work experience is needed to qualify for this challenging and rewarding role.
