Job Description

The hiring establishment is a grocery store located at 2020 Oregon St, specializing in providing high-quality meat and seafood products to its customers. Founded on the principles of quality and customer satisfaction, the store operates a dedicated Meat and Seafood Department aiming to meet customer demands with fresh and well-prepared products. This is a full-time position responsible for overseeing the operations of the Meat and Seafood Department. The role involves managing all activities related to ordering, receiving, displaying, and maintaining meat and seafood products at optimal levels. Reporting directly to the Meat Seafood Department Manager and/or Buyer, the position requires coordination and collaboration to ensure that inventory matches customer demand and profitability targets are met. Emphasis is placed on operational effectiveness, including reviewing invoices, conducting monthly inventory counts, and adhering to established delivery and storage procedures.

An essential function of this role is to manage customer interactions by offering excellent service, providing assistance with product questions, and suggesting appropriate purchase and preparation methods. The individual in this role will be responsible for implementing sales promotions and pricing strategies developed by department leadership, ensuring displays are attractive, well-maintained, and compliant with health and safety standards. They will also be tasked with preparing meat cuts that optimize both yield and customer appeal, rotating products efficiently, and maintaining department equipment in good operational condition.

The role also includes supervisory responsibilities, such as selecting qualified candidates, training staff using structured checklists, setting daily work priorities, scheduling labor hours within payroll allocations, and conducting performance evaluations. Safety is a key priority, with duties involving the documentation and addressing of safety violations, hazards, and accidents, as well as posting caution signs where necessary. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to handle multiple demands effectively, possess excellent communication skills, and adapt to a work environment that includes cold and wet conditions.

The position offers a competitive pay range of $24.50 to $31.00 per hour and includes benefits such as 401(k), dental insurance, employee discounts, health insurance, and vision insurance. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Customer service experience required
  • Prior knowledge of federal county and city sanitation regulations required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Able to stand for two or more hours at a time
  • Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment
  • Must be 18 or older to operate meat and seafood equipment
  • Ability to work in cold and wet conditions
  • Ability to spend varied amounts of time looking at a computer screen
  • Flexible availability preferred

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Customer service experience required
  • Experience in meat cutting and merchandising preferred but will train the right candidate
  • Prior knowledge of federal county and city sanitation regulations required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands and follow through on commitments
  • Supervisory experience preferred but will train for the right candidate
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English

Job Duties

  • Order fresh meat and seafood to meet customer demand following Meat and Seafood Manager Buyer’s guidelines
  • Review and track invoices for accuracy and break into inventory categories
  • Conduct monthly inventory counts
  • Receive deliveries following established procedures
  • Check deliveries for damage quality and accuracy
  • Rotate deliveries into storage
  • Get credit from suppliers for returned or low-quality product and record and dispose unsellable items
  • Ensure inter-store transfer procedures are followed
  • Implement promotions sales and pricing strategies developed by Meat Seafood Buyer Manager
  • Maintain clear and accurate signs tags for the counter with pricing according to price list set by Meat Buyer
  • Plan attractive meat and seafood displays following standards of Meat Buyer
  • Replenish rotate and check displays for quality
  • Maintain meat and seafood displays freezer prep and storage areas in clean safe and orderly condition meeting health department standards
  • Prepare cuts of meat for best yield and customer appeal
  • Assist customers with product questions and special orders offering suggestions for purchase and preparation in a friendly courteous manner
  • Maintain department equipment in working order advising Store Manager of equipment needing repair or replacement
  • Keep daily temperature logs on all refrigerated equipment
  • Assist Department Manager in selecting qualified candidates ensuring on-the-job training
  • Ensure safety violations hazards and accidents are documented and addressed
  • Set daily work priorities for all department staff
  • Schedule labor hours within payroll allocation
  • Review exception reports
  • Conduct performance evaluations and take disciplinary action as needed following policies
