Job Description
This job opportunity is offered by a company specializing in retail grocery operations, focusing specifically on a highly specialized meat department. The establishment is known for its commitment to quality products and excellent customer service, which stands at the core of its business philosophy. As a retail grocery business, it caters to a broad customer base with a wide variety of grocery needs including fresh meat products. The environment is dynamic and fast-paced, ideal for professionals who thrive in management roles within food retail sectors. The Meat Manager position within this company is a crucial leadership role that distinctly combines day-to-day operational management with strategic oversight of the meat department's performance.
The Meat Manager is responsible for the overall supervision and management of the meat department ensuring that product quality, presentation, and customer service meet corporate and governmental standards. Working under the guidance of the Assistant Branch Manager or Branch Manager, this non-exempt hourly role demands a hands-on approach and an ability to lead, organize and motivate the team. The major responsibilities include overseeing product receiving, stocking, labeling, and ensuring cleanliness throughout the department. The Meat Manager is tasked with maintaining compliance with HACCP regulations through vigilant monitoring and periodic audits, which are critical for food safety and regulatory adherence. This position is not only about operational excellence but also about fostering strong customer relationships, highlighting the dual focus on product quality and service excellence.
In addition to managing the physical aspects of the department such as equipment maintenance and inventory control, the Meat Manager also plays a significant role in human resource functions including training new employees, developing work schedules, supervising staff performance, disciplining staff as necessary, and assisting with the recruitment process. This role demands strong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling the manager to effectively address issues and guide the team in a manner that supports the company’s values and goals.
The Meat Manager ensures that all merchandising efforts—whether through ensuring accurate pricing, proper signage, or creative product placement—are executed to enhance customer experience and maximize sales. This includes managing the ordering process from vendors to maintain optimal inventory levels, thus reducing shrinkage due to spoilage or overstocking. A detailed understanding of business operations from inventory management to customer service is a must for this position. Physical requirements must be met as well, with the role demanding the ability to lift and carry significant weights routinely throughout the day.
This position suits individuals who have a solid background in retail management or meat department operations, combined with the ability to work efficiently in a physically demanding environment. The candidate must be computer literate, experienced in leading teams, and capable of upholding rigorous hygiene and operational standards. Commitment to customer service, company values, and efficient department management will be key to success in this role. Overall, the Meat Manager contributes directly to the store’s success by ensuring that the meat department operates smoothly, safely, and profitably while providing excellent customer service.
