Job Description
The hiring establishment is a well-established retail company specializing in the grocery sector, with a dedicated focus on fresh meat products. Operating as a key player in the retail industry, the company prides itself on consistent customer satisfaction, high operational standards, and a strong commitment to quality and service. The company takes great care in maintaining pristine meat departments across its branches, ensuring excellent product availability, freshness, and customer engagement. This employer is committed to providing a supportive work environment that values teamwork, professional growth, and compliance with all industry regulations.
The position offered is for a Meat Manager, a pivotal role within the Meat Department responsible for overseeing all aspects of the department's operations. This is a non-exempt, hourly-paid position that reports directly to the Assistant Branch Manager or Branch Manager. The Meat Manager will be entrusted with a wide range of responsibilities, including managing product delivery, stocking, and labeling, ensuring cleanliness of aisles, freezers, and refrigerators, and offering superior customer service. The role requires strong leadership skills as the manager will supervise various team members such as Assistant Meat Managers, Meat Supervisors, and Stockers. Ensuring compliance with government regulations and corporate policies is a central aspect of the position.
In addition to managing daily operations, the Meat Manager is responsible for scheduling, staff training, interviewing candidates, and managing employee discipline and performance. Mastery of inventory management is crucial, including maintaining accurate computerized inventory records, overseeing product rotation to minimize shrinkage, and managing orders to optimize pricing and reduce spoilage. The Meat Manager also ensures that all equipment, such as scales and labeling machines, is operated correctly by staff and that maintenance schedules for refrigeration equipment are strictly followed.
The ideal candidate will have a strong customer service orientation and demonstrate an ability to build lasting customer relationships, especially with large clients. Detailed knowledge of HACCP regulations and experience conducting HACCP audits are essential to maintain food safety standards. The candidate must effectively communicate information, handle sensitive situations with discretion, and demonstrate computer literacy for managing inventory and records.
This Meat Manager position offers an excellent opportunity to lead a vital department within a respected grocery retail company, providing a challenging and rewarding career path. The role demands physical stamina due to lifting and carrying requirements and regular work in cold environments, with a strong emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance. Candidates with a high school diploma or GED and relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree, will find a supportive culture with room for professional advancement. This position is perfect for individuals passionate about food quality, customer satisfaction, and effective team leadership, committed to upholding high company standards and values.
