The Community Food Co-op is a community-owned natural foods grocery store dedicated to providing high-quality food while championing sustainability and the cooperative business model. Situated in the heart of the downtown area, this grocery store is much more than a retail establishment; it is a committed community partner that values inclusivity, engagement, and support within its workforce and among its customers. The Co-op is deeply invested in creating a workplace culture based on respect, integrity, and continuous growth. This dedication ensures employees not only contribute to a meaningful mission but also thrive personally and professionally within a supportive environment.

The Meat & Seafood Team Member role at the Downtown Location plays a crucial part in maintaining the efficiency and appeal of the meat and seafood department. This part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week) requires weekend availability and reports directly to the Meat Department Managers. The hourly wage for this position is $19.67, reflecting the Co-op's commitment to fair compensation and union-aligned pay scales under Teamsters Local 231. As a Level 1 non-exempt, union-classified role, this position combines skilled manual work, customer interaction, and strict adherence to food safety standards.

This role involves receiving deliveries, stocking cases, wrapping and labeling meat and seafood products, and assisting customers with inquiries and special orders. It requires a detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment and takes pride in maintaining high standards for product freshness, visual merchandising, and compliance with HACCP protocols. The ideal candidate will be comfortable performing occasional fish filleting and light preparation tasks, ensuring all products meet quality and safety expectations. By performing a wide range of duties from product education to maintaining cleanliness and organization, the Meat & Seafood Team Member helps uphold the Co-op’s reputation for reliability, quality, and community service.

Working at the Community Food Co-op offers more than just a job — it offers an opportunity to be part of a cooperative community committed to ethical and sustainable food sourcing. Team members experience a collaborative work environment where teamwork is emphasized, and every employee’s contributions to the overall success of the Co-op are valued. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about natural foods, enjoy working indoors in refrigerated environments, and want to support a workplace that cares about its employees and customers equally.

If you have previous experience working with fresh meat or seafood, familiarity with HACCP principles, and a strong focus on quality and customer service, this role offers a rewarding opportunity to utilize those skills and grow professionally. The Community Food Co-op is an equal opportunity employer, ensuring that all qualified applicants receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other protected characteristic. This dedication to fairness extends to offering comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, and vision insurance options, 401(k) with match, paid time off, and more, making this position a well-rounded career choice within a supportive cooperative framework. Join the Community Food Co-op and contribute to a sustainable food future while enjoying a fulfilling career in the meat and seafood department.
