Job Description

Marion Polk Food Share is a dedicated regional food bank serving Marion and Polk Counties with the mission to bring communities together to end hunger and address its root causes. With partnerships extending to more than 70 programs including food pantries, meal sites, and home-delivered meals, the organization strives to provide nutritious food to children, adults, and seniors in need. The Food Share not only focuses on hunger relief but also on programs aimed at tackling systemic barriers to food security, ensuring dignity, equity, and community engagement as core values. Employees at Marion Polk Food Share are committed to treating all people as neighbors, encouraging creativity, listening to understand diverse perspectives, and celebrating diversity in an equitable manner.

This temporary part-time Meals on Wheels Prep Cook position offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute directly to this impactful mission. Working 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM, the Prep Cook supports meal preparation efforts with a focus on ingredient preparation, food safety, and maintaining a sanitary kitchen environment. The position is hourly, offering $18.00 to $19.42 per hour, with eligibility for a 5% bilingual differential based on oral proficiency if meeting Food Share standards. This role requires a resourceful team player who is flexible, self-motivated, and driven by a desire to improve the quality of life for older adults and people with disabilities through nutritious meals.

The Prep Cook assists in preparing, measuring, washing, chopping, peeling, and portioning ingredients following the Executive Chef’s specifications to ensure consistent, high-quality meals. This role is integral to managing inventory, monitoring ingredient quantities, and maintaining compliance with food safety standards, which supports the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Meals on Wheels program. The working environment is dynamic with a need to adapt to changing schedules or operational needs at the discretion of the Executive Chef or Meals on Wheels Director. Physical demands include prolonged standing, lifting over 30 pounds, and working in variable environmental conditions including kitchen and delivery settings.

This role requires candidates who are comfortable working in a commercial kitchen setting and who have experience adhering to food industry safety and handling standards. Ideal candidates value teamwork, are flexible in their approach, and have a genuine desire to connect with and serve vulnerable populations. The job is on-site and does not support remote work. Marion Polk Food Share offers a professional atmosphere where employees are supported with training, ongoing development, and a comprehensive benefits package, including paid holidays, earned leave, retirement contributions, and health insurance.*
