Job Description
The hiring establishment for this role is a specialized healthcare provider located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, recognized for its commitment to advanced cardiac and critical care services. This organization operates a comprehensive Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) Program, which includes technologies such as Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD), and Impella devices to support patients with severe cardiac conditions. The facility is dedicated to delivering top-tier patient care through a multidisciplinary approach involving physicians, advanced practitioners, and skilled nursing professionals. The workplace environment emphasizes continuous learning, adherence to regulatory standards, and high-quality patient outcomes in cardiac support care.
The role advertised is the Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) Program Coordinator position, a full-time day shift opportunity ideal for experienced nursing professionals specializing in critical care and cardiac support. This position demands a nurse leader who will coordinate the multifaceted care and education of patients receiving MCS devices and their families, facilitating support from the pre-operative evaluation phase through to post-operative recovery and long-term management. The coordinator will serve as a vital link between patients, families, and clinical teams, ensuring seamless communication and optimal therapeutic interventions.
Key responsibilities include evaluating potential MCS candidates through strict clinical criteria, scheduling necessary diagnostic testing, and consolidating patient data for physician review. The role also includes educating patients and caregivers about the risks, benefits, lifestyle adjustments, and technical operation of complex cardiac support devices. This coordinator will arrange all required medical therapies and tests, review lab results, and communicate abnormalities promptly to physicians. Additionally, the MCS Program Coordinator actively participates in intra-operative management during device implantation, prepares comprehensive discharge and follow-up care plans, and collaborates with healthcare providers across the care continuum.
The position emphasizes continuous education and training for both patients and healthcare staff to maintain proficiency in cutting-edge clinical care related to mechanical circulatory support. The coordinator bears on-call responsibilities, including availability for 24-hour coverage on evenings, weekends, and holidays, highlighting the program's urgent and critical nature. This role requires independent judgment for problem-solving under general supervision and frequent interaction with internal teams and external healthcare professionals at all levels, including directors.
Applicants must hold an active, multi-state or Oklahoma Registered Nurse License, with completion of professional nursing curricula verified by a state board of nursing. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred, alongside certifications including Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and ideally Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN). Candidates should have a minimum of three years of progressive leadership and critical care nursing experience, possessing thorough knowledge of post-implant care, medications, complications, and discharge planning relevant to MCS patients. Familiarity with INTERMACS regulations, Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols, and data management is essential.
This role is defined as safety sensitive under Oklahoma law, reflecting the critical nature of patient care and safety standards at the facility. The healthcare provider is an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to workforce diversity and inclusion, including protected veterans and individuals with disabilities. This document outlines the essential functions and physical demands but is not exhaustive, with additional duties assigned as necessary in support of the MCS program and patient care initiatives.
