Job Description

Math Corps is a dynamic and impactful nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the future of students through high-impact math tutoring. Powered by AmeriCorps members, Math Corps provides essential tutoring services that empower students to build confidence and competence in mathematics. As one of the largest tutoring programs in the nation, Math Corps has successfully supported over 91,000 students, delivering tailored assistance that bridges educational gaps and promotes academic success. Administered by Ampact and backed by rigorous research from ServeMinnesota's National Science + Service Collaborative, Math Corps operates with a mission-driven approach that values inclusiveness, equity, and personal growth for both students and tutors. The organization is committed to creating a supportive environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of background or circumstance.

Joining Math Corps as a Math Tutor means becoming an essential part of this transformative mission. Tutors spend their days at local schools directly engaging with students, facilitating focused math practice sessions designed to accelerate learning and skill development. The position is designed with accessibility in mind; even those without advanced math skills will be trained and coached thoroughly to effectively deliver proven activities that make a tangible difference. Tutors work with small groups of up to three students for short, impactful sessions during the school day. These sessions typically last between 20 and 30 minutes, optimizing student engagement and learning retention.

The role involves rotating through groups of students throughout the day, ensuring that each student receives personalized attention and support. This hands-on involvement allows tutors to observe incredible growth in their students over time, witnessing their increasing confidence and mastery of mathematical concepts. Beyond simply teaching math, tutors act as caring adults who encourage and celebrate students' successes, fostering a positive and motivating learning environment.

This is a part-time or full-time AmeriCorps position with a service commitment that runs from August 2026 through June 2027, perfectly aligning with the academic calendar. The typical schedule includes 35 hours per week, with variations for holiday breaks and school release days; part-time options at 25 or 15 hours per week are also available. This role follows school hours, Monday through Friday, with weekends off, providing a predictable and balanced work routine. Tutors are paid a stipend of $17.50 per hour, paid biweekly, which is supplemented by an excellent benefits package including free individual health insurance, child care assistance, and access to a member assistance program.

Additionally, tutors benefit from significant educational perks, such as up to $5,176.50 toward college tuition or student loan repayment (with transferable awards for tutors over 55), federal student loan forbearance options, and the ability to accrue time toward Public Service Loan Forgiveness. Math Corps supports tutors’ personal and professional growth through ongoing coaching and training, making it an ideal opportunity for individuals passionate about education and community service. This role not only enriches students’ lives but also offers meaningful career development and an opportunity to contribute to a nationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to educational equity.
