Job Description
Math Corps is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to improving math skills among students through high-impact tutoring programs. Powered by AmeriCorps members who serve as tutors, Math Corps has made a significant impact by helping over 91,000 students gain essential math skills needed to succeed academically and build confidence. Administered by Ampact, a nonprofit that emphasizes equity and inclusion, Math Corps operates in partnership with schools to deliver tailored math support directly to students during the school day. This tutoring program is fueled by research and best practices, ensuring that every intervention is proven to make a difference in student achievement and long-term educational opportunities.
Math Corps seeks passionate individuals to join their team as Math Tutors for the 2026-27 school year. As a Math Tutor, you will play a critical role in supporting small groups of students, typically up to three, during daily sessions of 20 to 30 minutes each. Your main responsibility will be to facilitate focused practice that builds students' competency, confidence, and enthusiasm for math. The program is designed so that even individuals who may not consider themselves math experts can succeed; comprehensive training and ongoing coaching are provided to prepare tutors to lead effective sessions and track student progress.
The position is part-time or full-time, aligning with school hours Monday through Friday, typically 35 hours per week with time off on holidays and school release days. There are also flexible part-time options available, perfect for those seeking fewer hours. As an AmeriCorps member with Math Corps, tutors receive a stipend of $17.50 per hour served, along with a suite of benefits including fully covered individual health insurance premiums, child care assistance based on eligibility, and access to member support programs.
One of the standout features of this role is the opportunity for personal growth and professional development. Tutors receive continuous coaching and training designed to enhance instructional techniques and build meaningful relationships with students. They also contribute to the community by sharing experiences and fostering a supportive learning environment. Furthermore, this position offers exceptional education benefits including up to $5,176.50 to be applied towards college tuition or student loans, federal student loan forbearance during service, interest repayment assistance, and credit towards the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. These benefits make Math Corps an excellent choice for individuals committed to education, community service, and personal advancement.
Joining Math Corps means becoming part of a mission-driven organization that values diversity, equity, and inclusion. The organization strictly prohibits discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, age, religion, sexual orientation, disability, political affiliation, marital status, pregnancy, genetic information, military service, or any legally protected category. Reasonable accommodations are available upon request to ensure all members can fully participate in the program.
This role offers a meaningful way to impact students’ educational journeys by helping them develop critical math skills that multiply their future opportunities. Whether you have a background in education or are new to tutoring, Math Corps equips you with the resources, training, and support necessary to thrive in this role and make a tangible difference in the lives of students.
