Job Description
Westwood is a highly respected firm renowned for its commitment to delivering top-tier professional services within the geotechnical, environmental, and engineering consulting sectors. The company is distinguished by its expert team of professionals who possess extensive experience and a passion for quality and client satisfaction. With a dynamic and collaborative work culture, Westwood has built a reputation for excellence, innovation, and reliable project execution across a wide range of industries, including construction, municipal services, renewable energy, and transportation. The firm emphasizes continuous employee development and fosters an environment where teamwork, integrity, and technical expertise are core values. Joining Westwood means becoming part of a forward-thinking company that supports career advancement while maintaining a strong commitment to community and environmental stewardship.
The role of a Geotechnical/Construction Materials Testing Technician at Westwood is both challenging and rewarding, designed for individuals who thrive in both field and laboratory settings. This full-time position involves conducting critical testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt to ensure compliance with construction standards and project specifications. Technicians play a fundamental role in supporting infrastructure and construction projects, including those under renewable energy initiatives and municipal developments, by providing accurate, timely, and reliable laboratory and field testing data.
Employees in this role are responsible for a broad range of testing procedures, including the laboratory analysis of asphalt mixtures, soil density and compaction measurements, and concrete testing during on-site placements. This position requires travel to various project locations, occasionally involving the collection of material samples that must be processed and analyzed in the laboratory. Candidates will be equipped with the latest tools and methodologies, and will participate in routine equipment calibration and maintenance, ensuring optimal operation and adherence to safety protocols.
Communication skills are essential as the technician will liaise frequently with project managers, laboratory staff, and on-site personnel to relay findings and adjust test schedules as needed. The technician will also prepare detailed daily reports that document testing procedures, observations, results, and any deviations from project specifications. These reports are vital for maintaining transparent project records and helping clients meet regulatory requirements.
Westwood offers a supportive and stimulating work environment that encourages professional growth and skills development. The company values employees who bring analytical thinking, problem-solving capabilities, and meticulous attention to detail. The role is suited for candidates who are physically capable of handling field duties, including lifting materials up to 50 pounds and maintaining clean, safe workspaces and vehicles. Work hours are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional flexibility required to meet project demands. Background and driving record checks, along with random drug testing, will be part of the employment process due to the necessity of driving company vehicles when required.
Westwood’s commitment to its staff and clients is evident in its comprehensive approach to testing and consultation, making it an ideal employer for those seeking to advance their careers in construction materials testing within an established and respected company.
