Job Description

Arctic Slope Regional Corporation (ASRC) is a well-established, Inupiat-owned corporation that was created under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. ASRC has grown into a family of companies dedicated to providing employment opportunities while respecting indigenous heritage and community values. ASRC operates across multiple industries, contributing significantly to economic development and sustainability within Alaska. The company emphasizes equity and inclusion, applying shareholder preference in employment as authorized by law, and is committed to maintaining a drug-free workplace. ASRC is an Equal Opportunity Employer, ensuring all qualified applicants receive fair consideration regardless of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, religion, disability, protected veteran status, or any other legally protected status. This position is full-time and requires physical presence at the work site.

The Material Handler / Expeditor role at ASRC is a pivotal position within the Procurement & Supply Chain Department aimed at ensuring the efficient and timely flow of materials across various departments, job sites, and vendor locations. This role requires a highly organized individual capable of expediting the transfer of materials by coordinating with freight carriers and project locations both locally and statewide. The Material Handler / Expeditor is responsible for the inspection of all incoming materials, verifying part numbers, and assessing the condition and accuracy of shipments, including detecting damaged or unmarked parts. They must ensure that the quality and quantities of goods delivered precisely match the purchase orders.

Beyond receiving and verifying shipments, the Material Handler / Expeditor maintains comprehensive inventory records, documenting the precise quantities, types, and movement of materials through receiving points. The role also involves active communication with procurement specialists and project managers to track orders and report on material status, particularly in cases of delayed or missing shipments.

Physical tasks are part of this position, including moving, lifting, and handling materials during offloading. The handler is also responsible for properly identifying, packaging, labeling, and preparing shipments according to project instructions or internal documentation to ensure smooth logistics and compliance with company policies. This role encompasses the oversight of hazardous materials, requiring assessments and management of shipping declarations, manifests, and other transportation documents compliant with regulatory standards.

The Material Handler / Expeditor supports the overall organization of materials, tools, and equipment on company property. This includes sorting, stowing, loading, unloading, and conducting inventories of storage containers and trailers. The job occasionally requires the use of basic power tools such as drills, hammers, and cutting devices to assemble shipping crates.

Candidates must hold a high school diploma or GED and have a valid Alaska driver’s license with the ability to obtain a Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Card, though holding a current DOT Medical Card is preferred. Preferred candidates will have between one and three years of experience working in expediting, shipping, and receiving, and be proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP systems like Vista Viewpoint or Smartsheet. Experience with hazardous material transportation qualifications such as DOT or IATA certification is also preferred. The role demands the ability to operate various equipment including forklifts, loaders, squirt booms, and skid steers.

ASRC offers a comprehensive benefits package to full-time employees including a 401(k) plan with company matches, health and dental insurance, flexible spending and health savings accounts, paid time off, and other employee assistance resources. The company operates a referral program and emphasizes on-the-job training and career development to support employee growth and well-being.
