The Marlin Bar Assistant Manager plays a vital role in the successful operation of the Marlin Bar, a distinguished segment of Tommy Bahama's restaurant portfolio. This position focuses on leading the Marlin Bar team to deliver exceptional service experiences that align with the Tommy Bahama Core Values and Hospitality Standards. The Assistant Manager supports and works alongside the Marlin Bar Manager to cultivate a learning and nurturing workplace that promotes sales success and internal career growth for all team members. Responsibilities include assisting with recruitment and hiring, staff development, and maintaining appropriate staffing levels while ensuring all employees are effectively oriented and trained. The role demands close attention to restaurant operations, including managing budgets, enforcing policies, supervising the physical upkeep of the bar and kitchen areas, and upholding the brand image. The Assistant Manager embodies the Tommy Bahama culture and core values, influencing their team to embrace these principles through effective communication, coaching, and leading by example.

This position requires a proactive approach to performance management, partnering with Regional Managers and Human Resources to ensure compliance with employment policies. The Assistant Manager is also responsible for educating and mentoring staff on all food and beverage offerings, safety, sanitation standards, and hospitality expectations. The role demands a high level of interpersonal skills to engage with guests and build meaningful community relationships. Practical knowledge of cash handling, point-of-sale systems, and food safety certifications is essential. Physical demands include the ability to perform tasks such as lifting, standing for extended periods, and occasional climbing. Flexibility in working varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is necessary to meet business needs. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Generally 3 years of food and beverage experience with some leadership experience preferred
  • Must have current food handler's card and alcohol service certification as required by federal state local law
  • Familiarity with Open Table reservation systems preferred
  • Ability to work schedule shifts determined by business needs which may include nights weekends and holidays
  • Basic math skills
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Assist in creating a learning and nurturing environment for all Marlin Bar team members that promotes sales and service success and internal career growth
  • Assist the Marlin Bar Manager to develop and implement strategies to increase qualified applicants including proactive recruiting
  • Hire qualified people effectively orient new employees set clear performance expectations train coach and give constructive performance feedback
  • Facilitate implementation of company learning training programs follow-up and monitor performance to ensure transfer of learned skills on-the-job
  • Practice proactive performance management in partnership with the Regional Manager and HR when necessary to ensure adherence to employment policies and procedures
  • Manage individual restaurant expenses ensuring budgetary compliance
  • Ensure consistent execution of company policies and procedures
  • Develop and streamline Marlin Bar processes in partnership with the Marlin Bar Manager
  • Communicate the Tommy Bahama lifestyle through brand execution both visual and experiential
  • Ensure employee appearance appropriately reflects the Tommy Bahama brand image
  • Manage upkeep of kitchen bar and Marlin Bar exterior in partnership with the Marlin Bar Manager and Marlin Bar Store Manager
  • Embrace articulate and reflect on the Tommy Bahama culture
  • Influence the team to embrace articulate and reflect the Tommy Bahama values
  • Demonstrate the Tommy Bahama Core Values in all business decisions and actions
  • Commit to maintain the culture through the evolution of the business

  • Possess complete knowledge and enforcement of all food and beverage menus including ingredients preparation methods and presentation
  • Possess complete knowledge application and enforcement of all Hospitality Standards
  • Ability to interact with the guest and cultivate authentic relationships in the community
  • Practice proper cash handling and proper operation of the point-of-sale system
  • Be proficient in food handling safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned
