The Marketing and Visitor Engagement Coordinator position within the Kansas Department of Commerce offers an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about tourism and economic development in Kansas. This full-time, unclassified role operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and includes eligibility for comprehensive state benefits. The coordinator’s primary mission is to act as a dynamic ambassador for Kansas Tourism, showcasing the state's remarkable attractions, events, and cultural experiences. Responsibilities will revolve around supporting tourism marketing projects, managing visitor information services, coordinating the dissemination of publications, and welcoming guests and visitors as a friendly first point of contact. This role also involves planning and coordinating enticing tourism events and providing administrative assistance to the Tourism Director and team members, making every workday a unique chance to inspire travel and share the compelling Kansas story.

The coordinator will play a pivotal role in enhancing Kansas’s tourism visibility by collaborating with industry partners to disseminate promotional materials and information streamlining communications. They will assist in developing travel itineraries, themed trip ideas, and marketing campaigns for use across various platforms including TravelKS.com and consumer outreach newsletters. Managing the fulfillment of printed materials such as travel guides and other tourism publications will be a crucial logistical function. Frontline engagement responsibilities include serving as the tourism office receptionist and responding to inquiries from visitors, providing detailed information about travel opportunities and local attractions.

The position also demands involvement in the preparation and development of marketing materials designed for trade shows, conferences, and special tourism events, providing further exposure and engagement with the tourism sector. Administrative duties encompass report preparation, correspondence, presentation assistance, and comprehensive support to the Tourism Director and broader team. This multifaceted role requires strong organizational skills, a passion for Kansas’s tourism industry, and the ability to effectively communicate and engage with diverse audiences. Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Supporting tourism promotions by coordinating materials, information, and communication with industry partners
  • Assisting with the development and planning of travel itineraries and themed trip ideas for use on TravelKS.com, marketing campaigns, and visitor outreach
  • Assisting with the development and distribution of the Consumer e-Newsletter, including drafting content and scheduling distribution
  • Coordinate fulfillment of printed materials including Travel Guide requests, and other tourism publications
  • Serve as the receptionist for Kansas Tourism
  • Greet in-office guests and answers phone inquiries to provide information about Kansas attractions, communities, and travel opportunities
  • Working with the planning, preparation, and development of marketing materials for trade shows, conferences, and tourism events
  • Provide administrative support to the Kansas Tourism Director and team
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and presentations as requested
