The Market Grille Cook role at Hy-Vee is a critical position within the Market Grille department responsible for preparing and serving a variety of hot and cold food items promptly and efficiently. As a cook, you will uphold Hy-Vee's promise of "a helpful smile in every aisle" by delivering friendly and professional customer service. This role involves preparing vegetables, sides, meats, breakfast foods, and all Market Grille menu items with care and attention to quality. The Market Grille Cook manages cooking surfaces, monitors food quantities in hot cases, refills as necessary, and ensures adherence to sanitation and personal hygiene standards. Success in this position requires a good understanding of kitchen operations, a growth mindset, and the ability to work well in a team environment. You will report to multiple store leadership roles, including the District Store Director and Market Grille Department Manager. This hourly non-exempt position offers a starting wage ranging from $14.00 to $17.50 depending on experience. Employment is contingent on the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- six months or less of similar or related work experience
- ability to solve practical problems
- ability to do simple addition and subtraction
- ability to understand and follow instructions verbally or through demonstration
- ability to write identifying information and request supplies orally or in writing
- physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally
- able to lift and move various objects frequently and constantly
- able to perform physical activities including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions

Job Duties
- provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions
- smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store
- makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible
- assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach products, loading or unloading heavy items, making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests, performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience
- answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service
- works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
- prepares cooking surfaces
- prepares vegetables, sides, meats, breakfast foods and all menu items
- places food in hot cases, monitors amounts, and refills as necessary
- knowledgeable of all menu items and able to take guests' orders
- prepares items for upcoming shifts
- ensures personal understanding of all aspects of the Market Grille
- practices proper sanitation procedures and ensures the work area is clean
- maintains strict adherence to personal hygiene and dress standards
- adheres to company policies and store guidelines
- reports to work on time as scheduled
