Market Grille Cooks are responsible for preparing and serving hot and cold menu items, including heat-and-eat varieties that cater to customers seeking convenience and quality. The Market Grille Cook reports to multiple management positions including the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Manager of Store Operations, Food Service Manager, Market Grille Department Manager, and Assistant Market Grille Department Manager. This position does not have leadership responsibilities over other staff but is a crucial front-line contributor to store operations and customer satisfaction.
A key part of this role involves customer interaction—providing respectful, patient, and caring service to every guest, learning and using customer names, and responding proactively to their needs. The cook must prepare cooking surfaces, handle food preparation including vegetables, sides, meats, and breakfast items, and ensure the display and refill of hot food cases. Knowledge of menu items and the ability to take customer orders accurately is important. Proper sanitation practices, personal hygiene, and adherence to company policies and individual store guidelines are strictly enforced to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Physical demands of the job include lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, standing and walking for extended periods, and performing various physical activities such as climbing and bending. The working environment involves exposure to temperature variations, noise, and the use of various kitchen equipment such as grills, fryers, ovens, choppers, and slicers. Safety precautions and attentiveness are necessary due to potential hazards from equipment and cleaning chemicals.
This position offers an anticipated hourly wage ranging from $17.00 to $21.25, depending on experience. Employment is contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug screen. - High school diploma or equivalent
- Six months or less of related work experience
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

Job Duties
- Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store
- Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store
- Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible
- Assists customers by escorting them to the products for which they're looking, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests, performing other tasks in every way possible to enhance the shopping experience
- Answers the telephone promptly when called upon and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call
- Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
- Prepares the cooking surfaces
- Prepares vegetables, sides, meats, breakfast foods and all menu items
- Places food in hot cases, monitors amounts, and refills as necessary
- Knowledgeable of all menu items and able to take guests' orders
- Prepares items for the upcoming shifts
- Ensures personal understanding of all aspects of the Market Grille
- Understands and practices proper sanitation procedures and ensures the work area is always clean and neat
- Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress
- Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines
- Reports to work when scheduled and on time
