The role of Market Director for Medical Staff Services at The George Washington University Hospital is a vital leadership position overseeing all credentialing, privileging, governance, and regulatory compliance activities across the continuum of care. This position ensures seamless and compliant operations across the academic medical center, community hospitals, and affiliated medical groups. The Market Director is responsible for managing the Medical Staff Office, including credentialing of physicians and allied health professionals, developing departmental policies and budgets, and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards set forth by agencies like The Joint Commission and CMS. Acting as a critical liaison between hospital administration and medical staff, this leader coordinates medical staff meetings, prepares communications, and manages relationships between physicians, external entities, and the hospital management team. In addition, this role serves as the Privacy Officer for Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center.

This leadership position drives strategic integration by unifying medical staff bylaws and regulations across varied care settings while mentoring staff and advancing professional development. The Market Director leads credentialing processes, ensuring efficient onboarding and recredentialing, and facilitates quality assurance through professional practice evaluations and peer reviews. Working closely with Risk Management and Performance Improvement teams, this role supports continuous clinical quality improvement initiatives.

Compliance is a cornerstone responsibility, requiring the Market Director to rigorously enforce adherence to standards from regulatory bodies and maintain accurate and timely reporting of medical staff activities. The successful candidate must manage the Medical Executive Committee functions and related governance operations. This position involves travel within the GW Health Market and demands exceptional organizational skills, strong interpersonal communication, and leadership capabilities in a dynamic, fast-paced healthcare environment. Job Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology
  • Minimum of 7-10 years experience in healthcare credentialing, privileging and medical staff services
  • 2 years of leadership experience
  • CPMSM certification by NAMSS preferred
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication

Job Duties
