Job Description
Union Gospel Mission (UGM) is a faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, and poverty. Grounded in Christian values, UGM operates with a clear mission to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and provide holistic care to those in need. The organization is committed to embodying compassion, authenticity, and professionalism while maintaining a strong spiritual foundation. Every employee at UGM is considered a vital part of this ministry, with an expectation of having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and actively participating in the spiritual life of the organization through Bible study, prayer, devotions, and sharing the Gospel.
The Content and Communications Specialist at UGM plays a crucial role in advancing the organization’s mission by developing and executing compelling content and communication strategies. This role is essential in building awareness about the impactful work UGM does and engaging donors, volunteers, and faith community partners. The Specialist acts as the principal writer and the marketing voice for the UGM Executive Director, ensuring that all executive communications, public statements, and key messages reflect both the director’s intent and the organization’s faith-based values.
This role requires a well-rounded professional skilled in strategic communication, content creation, and marketing aligned with nonprofit fundraising goals. The Content and Communications Specialist collaborates closely with the marketing team to craft marketing plans, donor engagement strategies, and public relations efforts. Responsibilities include producing SEO-optimized content for multiple platforms—including blog posts, social media, emails, print materials, and newsletters—to maximize reach and engagement. This position also involves collecting stories and conducting interviews with residents, volunteers, donors, and staff members to generate authentic content that resonates with the community.
As a key storyteller and communicator, the specialist is entrusted with creating diverse types of content such as website copy, advertisements, annual reports, event materials, and campaign collateral while maintaining accuracy and transparency. In addition to content development and curation, the specialist supports the marketing director in maintaining a robust digital presence through strategic content distribution and media engagement.
Beyond content responsibilities, the specialist is the primary writer for the Executive Director, crafting articles, appeals, emails, and personalized thank-you letters that align with the organization’s vision and values. This aspect of the role requires close collaboration with the Executive Director and leadership team to capture their voice and message authentically.
The position demands a candidate with excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal capabilities grounded in Christian compassion, and the ability to work effectively within a team. A teachable spirit, multi-tasking ability, and commitment to the ministry’s mission are essential qualities. The Content and Communications Specialist also assists with volunteer coordination and occasionally captures high-quality photographs for use in marketing materials.
UGM offers this role with a commitment to a supportive work environment that includes meaningful benefits such as paid time off, medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, and a 403(b) retirement plan with company match. This position requires adherence to the Statement of Faith and ministry standards, demonstrating full alignment with UGM's purpose as a Christ-centered organization committed to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished.
