With a strong commitment to innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction, Thermo Fisher serves a wide range of industries including pharmaceutical, food, clinical, and biotechnology sectors. The company is known for its high standards of manufacturing practices and its dedication to creating solutions that have a meaningful impact on the world. The Lenexa, KS location, specifically the Microbiology Division, supports the production, assembly, and distribution of microbiological diagnostic products in environments that include cave, cooler, and warehouse settings. This facility operates under stringent GMP and cGMP standards to ensure safe and high-quality output.
The role of Manufacturing Operator II or Material Handler II at Thermo Fisher Scientific is a critical position within the manufacturing and warehouse operations team. These roles are essential for supporting the reliable production and fulfillment of products that serve vital healthcare and scientific communities globally. As a Manufacturing Operator II, you will engage in following detailed standard operating procedures and work instructions to safely carry out production processes, monitor product quality, operate machinery, and maintain compliance with company policies. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe working environment while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
For those in the Material Handler II position, responsibilities include accurately picking, packing, scanning, and shipping customer orders, managing inventory and warehouse organization within cooler and climate-controlled environments, as well as safely operating forklifts and other material handling equipment. The job demands physical stamina as it involves standing for long hours, lifting heavy loads, and working in cold storage areas consistently. Both roles require effective communication in English, adherence to personal protective equipment requirements, and the ability to contribute to teamwork and safety standards.
Thermo Fisher Scientific offers competitive pay at $19 per hour with an additional 10% shift differential for second shift workers. The company provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, paid time off, parental leave, tuition reimbursement, a 401(k) plan, and opportunities for career advancement. This investment in employee wellbeing and development underscores Thermo Fisher's commitment to creating a rewarding and supportive work environment.
Employees hired in this division can expect to work Monday through Friday with shift options that include first shift operator hours from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, second shift operator hours from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm, and material handler shifts from Monday to Thursday working 10-hour days from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm. All work is performed in person at the Lenexa, KS facility, which maintains rigorous safety and quality standards in line with Good Manufacturing Practices.
As Thermo Fisher Scientific progresses, there is a business update indicating the upcoming sale of its microbiology business to Astorg, with completion expected in the second half of 2026. Employees hired prior to this transition are expected to move to Astorg following the close, providing continuity and stability for team members in these essential roles.

The company prides itself on fostering an inclusive, safe, and equitable workplace that meets diverse employee needs and encourages professional growth.
