The role of Manager, Transportation at US Foods is a critical leadership position responsible for ensuring efficient, safe, and cost-effective transportation operations. This role oversees the Transportation department, cultivating a culture oriented around people, safety, service, and cost management. The Manager will engage meaningfully with drivers and other transportation personnel to drive operational efficiency and deliver best-in-class service to customers. Key responsibilities include managing daily outbound shipments to customers and distribution centers while ensuring adherence to safety and regulatory requirements. This position requires a hands-on leader proficient in coaching, developing teams, and problem-solving to maintain service delivery excellence.
This full-time position offers a competitive salary range of $75,000 to $115,000 annually, dependent upon relevant experience, specific skills, educational background, and geographic location. The role may include incentive compensation as well as a comprehensive benefits package that covers health insurance, retirement benefits, paid time off, disability insurance, and an employee stock purchase plan. This position also necessitates some travel, approximately 10%, typically for mandatory meetings and training sessions.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of experience in transportation, delivery, or warehouse distribution and at least one year of experience leading a workforce. Experience as a driver is considered a plus. Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership, excellent communication, and people development skills along with a robust understanding of DOT regulations, OSHA, and other relevant regulatory frameworks. Additionally, proficiency in interpreting financial and operational data and basic computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office tools, is required.
The Manager, Transportation will play a pivotal role in establishing and sustaining a safety-first culture by championing safety procedures and compliance, conducting routine safety and driver meetings, and investigating incidents promptly to implement corrective actions. This role includes supervising union and/or non-union drivers and coordinating closely with internal teams such as warehouse leaders and sales departments, as well as external customers to ensure operational success and exceptional service delivery.

Job Requirements
- Minimum of three years of experience in transportation, delivery or warehouse distribution
- Minimum of one year of experience overseeing a workforce
- High school diploma or GED
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Knowledge of DOT regulations
- Basic computer proficiency
- Ability to travel up to 10 percent
- Ability to perform physical activities including standing, walking, driving vehicle, sitting, lifting and carrying varying weights occasionally
- Ability to work in noisy and vibrating environments
- Willingness to enforce safety and legal policies
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Lead with a safety mindset ensuring injury-free work environment
- Champion safety procedures, processes and training
- Oversee and develop drivers and Transportation associates through coaching and training
- Discuss driver performance with Sr. Transportation Managers and address gaps
- Create an atmosphere encouraging upward communication and associate motivation
- Direct and supervise work and productivity of drivers and clerical associates
- Participate in hiring, performance review, coaching, and disciplinary actions
- Monitor production goals for accuracy and customer satisfaction
- Troubleshoot delivery problems and implement cost-effective solutions
- Ensure adherence to DOT regulations
- Identify and stop waste and improve operational processes
- Conduct routine safety and driver meetings
- Oversee maintenance of driver qualification files
- Investigate accidents and implement preventative actions
- Schedule working shifts using planning tools
- Perform other duties as assigned
