The role of Manager, Transportation at US Foods is crucial in maintaining and enhancing the efficiency and safety of the company's transportation operations. The Manager of Transportation will have a hands-on approach to managing personnel, emphasizing safety, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and operational efficiency. They will work closely with internal teams including transportation leaders, warehouse staff, and sales departments, as well as maintaining strong relationships with customers. This role requires a strong understanding of logistics, transportation management, and regulatory compliance, along with the ability to interpret operational and financial data to optimize performance.
Positioned as a leader within the company, the Manager will be responsible for fostering a positive and motivated team environment, encouraging upward communication, and driving associate engagement and retention. Responsibilities include conducting safety and driver meetings, managing driver qualification files, investigating accidents, and ensuring proactive measures are in place to prevent incidents. Physical demands of the job include spending significant time on the road and in trucks, as well as performing various physical activities related to loading and handling materials.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years' experience in transportation, delivery, or warehouse distribution, with at least one year overseeing a workforce. Experience as a driver is considered a plus. Strong leadership skills, knowledge of DOT regulations, safety protocols, and proficiency in Microsoft Office tools are essential. The role requires occasional travel, typically for mandatory meetings or training sessions.

Job Requirements
- Minimum of three years of experience in transportation or delivery or warehouse distribution
- Minimum of one year experience overseeing a workforce
- High school diploma or GED required
- Strong leadership skills
- Knowledge of DOT requirements
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Ability to perform physical activities occasionally such as standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and driving vehicle
- Willingness to travel up to 10% for meetings and training
- Ability to manage safety and regulatory compliance
- Strong communication and coaching abilities
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- College degree preferred
- Minimum three years experience in transportation, delivery, or warehouse distribution
- Minimum one year experience overseeing a workforce

Job Duties
- Lead with a safety mindset ensuring injury-free environment for associates, customers, and the public
- Champion safety procedures, processes, and training to maintain a safety-first culture
- Oversee and develop drivers and Transportation associates through coaching and training
- Discuss performance with Sr. Transportation Managers and create improvement plans
- Foster upward communication and motivate associates to achieve goals
- Direct and supervise work productivity of drivers and clerical staff
- Participate in hiring, review performance, coach on safety and service, and deliver disciplinary action
- Monitor production goals ensuring zero-error accuracy and customer satisfaction
- Identify and eliminate waste, improve safety and efficiency of processes
- Conduct routine Safety and Driver Meetings
- Oversee maintenance of driver qualification files
- Investigate accidents, track causes, and implement preventive actions
- Schedule working shifts using planning tools like Microsoft Excel
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager
