The Manager, Transportation position at US Foods is pivotal for ensuring smooth and efficient transportation operations while fostering a culture of safety and customer focus. This role is responsible for leading the Transportation department by overseeing drivers and transportation associates, directing daily outbound shipments, and ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies. The successful candidate will have at least three years of relevant transportation or warehouse distribution experience and a minimum of one year overseeing personnel. This position requires a leader who can champion safety-first values, develop and mentor team members, and drive operational efficiency. The Manager will handle scheduling, training, performance monitoring, accident investigation, and process improvement initiatives. They will work closely with internal departments such as Sales and Warehouse, as well as external customers, to ensure timely and accurate deliveries. This leadership role involves promoting effective communication channels, maintaining high team morale, and ensuring legal and regulatory compliance within the department. The role may involve some travel and time spent in both office and truck environments. Job Requirements
- Minimum of three years experience in transportation or warehouse distribution
- Minimum of one year experience overseeing a workforce
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience as a driver is a plus
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Knowledge of DOT regulations
- Ability to use Microsoft Office
- Ability to interpret operational data
- Available for 10% travel
- Must be able to perform physical activities including standing, walking, driving frequently, sitting frequently, lifting and carrying up to 100 lbs occasionally
- Must be able to push, pull, climb, balance, stoop, squat, kneel, bend, reach, twist, grasp, manipulate and have manual dexterity occasionally
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required, college degree preferred
- Minimum of three years experience in transportation or warehouse distribution
- At least one year experience overseeing a workforce
- Experience as a driver is a plus
- Broad knowledge of transportation operations, methods and procedures
- Strong leadership, communication and people development skills
- Strong understanding of DOT requirements and familiarity with inventory control and OSHA
- Ability to interpret financial and operational data
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
Job Duties
- Lead with a safety mindset ensuring injury-free environment
- Champion safety procedures, processes and training
- Oversee and develop drivers and transportation associates through coaching and training
- Discuss performance with senior managers and create improvement plans
- Encourage upward communication and motivate associates to meet goals
- Direct and supervise work productivity of drivers and clerical staff
- Build high-performing teams by participating in interviewing and hiring
- Monitor production goals to maintain accuracy and customer satisfaction
- Anticipate, analyze and troubleshoot delivery problems and implement solutions
- Ensure team adherence to DOT regulations
- Identify and eliminate waste while improving processes for safety and efficiency
- Conduct routine safety and driver meetings
- Oversee maintenance of driver qualification files
- Investigate accidents and implement preventive measures
- Schedule working shifts using appropriate planning tools
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
