Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is currently seeking a Manager Tool Die Making 2 to join their Tooling organization based in Palmdale, CA. This leadership role offers an excellent opportunity to lead the Advanced Measurement Systems group and manage daily operations including direct supervision, workflow management, assignment of work, scheduling, and controlling operating costs. The Manager will work closely with Manufacturing Engineering to develop solutions for complex mechanical problems, support tooling and production engineering data collection, and guide the team in the usage and certification of Computer-Aided Metrology Systems (C.A.M.S.).

This role requires a proactive and goal-focused leader who thrives in a dynamic work environment and values collaboration across multiple teams such as Quality Assurance, Tool Design, and Manufacturing Engineering. The position supports a flexible work arrangement including a 9/80 schedule that provides every other Friday off, contributing to a balanced work-life experience. Job Requirements

  • minimum of a bachelor degree or equivalent experience
  • at least 5 years of relevant experience including 2 years with Computer-Aided Measurement Systems
  • 2 years in a leadership role
  • familiarity with laser tracking interferometer and other metrology systems
  • ability to obtain Department of Defense Secret or Top Secret clearance
  • willingness to travel up to 10 percent of the time
  • ability to work any shift as necessary
  • experience coordinating with manufacturing, quality assurance, and tool design
  • proficiency in handling complex mechanical problem-solving
  • strong communication skills with multiple organizational levels

Job Qualifications

  • bachelor degree with 5 years experience including 2 years with Computer-Aided Measurement Systems or high school diploma with 9 years experience including 2 years with Computer-Aided Measurement Systems
  • minimum 2 years leadership experience
  • familiarity with multiple metrology systems such as laser trackers and articulated arms
  • experience with data collection for validation and verification in tooling and production engineering
  • ability to obtain DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • knowledge of inspection, maintenance, adjustment of laser tracking systems
  • experience with calibration and compensation of measurement instruments
  • experience with computer aided graphic interfaces such as Verisurf and Polyworks
  • experience with assembly or composite tooling
  • knowledge of Theodolite and photogrammetric laser radar systems
  • ability to communicate effectively across departments
  • experience with 3D modeling systems like CATIA UG
  • experience in reverse engineering and model building from data

Job Duties

  • manage daily operations of the Advanced Measurement Systems group including staff supervision and workflow scheduling
  • lead program management responsibilities including cost, schedule, and technical performance
  • develop solutions for complex mechanical problems in collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering
  • assign personnel and oversee training for Computer-Aided Metrology Systems usage and certification
  • analyze and interpret data results coordinating with Quality Assurance and Tool Design teams
  • implement Lean Thinking principles to improve operations and documentation
  • communicate and interface with multiple department levels to advise on data and operational outcomes
