The Sales/Use Tax Manager role in the Texas State & Local Tax (SALT) practice offers an exciting career opportunity within one of the fastest-growing CPA advisory firms in the U.S. The SALT practice at Baker Tilly comprises over 100 professionals nationwide, delivering a wide array of services such as Income & Franchise tax, Sales & Use tax, Real & Personal Property tax, Unclaimed Property, as well as Voluntary Disclosure & Remediation tailored to various industry needs. This position focuses on helping multi-state clients optimize their sales and use tax strategies by identifying savings opportunities, ensuring compliance, and improving cash flow. The role includes leading and mentoring staff, managing daily operations, interfacing with clients and tax authorities, preparing necessary filings, and conducting detailed data reconciliations. The position is located in Texas, with specific opportunities in Dallas, Frisco, and Houston. Compensation for this role varies with location and ranges from $112,500 to $160,980, reflecting factors such as experience, skills, certifications, and educational background. Job Requirements

  • Four-year degree required
  • CPA or law license required
  • five years of experience with state and local tax required
  • proficiency in Access
  • knowledge of basic tax research
  • experience conducting tax audits and reverse tax audits
  • strong analytical skills to reconcile trial balances and tax returns

Job Duties

  • Reviews and finalizes staff's audit/refund tax decisions
  • reviews client data for tax savings opportunities
  • mentors staff and manages staff workload
  • drafts filings such as petitions for redetermination, refund claims, and various administrative replies
  • responds to client inquiries and prepares documentation requests from state agencies
  • reconciles tax returns with client data
  • travels to client locations to gather and copy tax returns, invoices, purchase orders, and other documentation for audit/refund processes
  • performs other duties as assigned
