Job Description
Macy's is a storied retail institution that has been an integral part of American culture for over 160 years. Renowned not just as a store but as a symbol of innovation, tradition, and memorable experiences, Macy’s has woven itself into the fabric of community celebrations such as the iconic 4th of July Fireworks and the spectacular Thanksgiving Day Parade. Throughout its history, Macy’s has upheld a tradition of delivering exceptional products, unforgettable shopping experiences, and outstanding customer service that continues to inspire both customers and employees alike. This legacy makes Macy’s a unique and inspiring place to build a career, encouraging an inclusive, dynamic, and rewarding workplace environment.
The Manager, Sales & Customer Service at Macy's plays a pivotal role in bringing the Macy’s experience to life every day. This leadership position is responsible for ensuring that the store's presentation constantly reflects Macy’s high standards and for leading efforts that enhance customer loyalty and satisfaction. The role demands a passionate leader who views the store through the customers’ eyes, championing a culture of excellent customer service and motivating the sales team to maintain a welcoming and efficient sales floor. This manager drives sales by embedding Macy’s initiatives within the team, utilizing coaching, recognition, and productivity optimization techniques to exceed sales goals.
With a hands-on approach, the Manager oversees critical store operations, including stockroom management, merchandising, signing, and the use of equipment, ensuring these support selling activities effectively. Collaboration is key as the role also supports other operational segments such as OMNI commerce, style consulting, and asset protection, reflecting the integrated nature of Macy’s retail environment. A significant focus is placed on talent development; the Manager conducts ongoing analysis of team members to implement career progression plans, improve retention, and reduce turnover by filling open positions internally whenever possible.
The Manager further leads hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, and sometimes disciplining team members to uphold both performance and behavioral standards. This role requires flexible working hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and demands physical stamina for activities like lifting, standing for extended periods, and climbing ladders.
In addition to strong operational and leadership capabilities, successful candidates exhibit outstanding communication skills and technical proficiency with Microsoft Office and handheld devices. Macy’s fosters a fun, inclusive workplace where connecting authentically with colleagues, customers, and the community is highly valued. The Manager contributes directly to this culture by fostering an environment of acceptance and respect that enhances relationships and enriches the shopping experience.
Macy’s offers a comprehensive benefits package that supports the well-being and growth of its employees. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance options, a 401(k) plan with company match, paid time off, and eight paid holidays. Employees benefit from tuition reimbursement, performance-based incentives, annual merit reviews, merchandise discounts, and access to an Employee Assistance Program providing mental health counseling and legal/financial advice. Macy’s is committed to continuous learning and leadership development, providing ample opportunity for career growth and community involvement through resource groups and volunteer programs.
Joining Macy’s means becoming part of an iconic brand that values innovation, diversity, and an inclusive culture. Whether you are helping customers find the perfect gift, optimizing store operations, or assisting in the creative elements of Macy’s hallmark events, you will be part of memorable moments that resonate far beyond the retail environment. This is a remarkable opportunity for driven leaders to contribute to a story that continues to inspire generations and to write the next chapter alongside a passionate, dedicated team.
