Job Description
Detroit Tigers is a professional Major League Baseball (MLB) team based in Detroit, Michigan, with a rich history dating back to their establishment in 1894. The team is part of the American League Central Division and has garnered a passionate fan base due to its consistent participation in MLB events and a legacy of competitive spirit. Known not only for their performance on the field but also for their community engagement and commitment to excellence in sports management, the Detroit Tigers operate various facilities including their Spring Training location and player development academies. The Complex, known as Tigertown in Lakeland, Florida, serves as the hub for the team's Spring Training activities, minor league games featuring the Lakeland Flying Tigers, and diverse non-game day events throughout the year. It offers state-of-the-art facilities managed with precision to deliver a premium experience for fans, players, and staff alike. The organization values operational efficiency, safety, and guest satisfaction in providing a seamless sports entertainment environment and is committed to maintaining its facilities through expert management and robust coordination with City and third-party partners.
This role focuses on overseeing the daily execution of Ballpark and Facility Operations at Tigertown complex during MLB Spring Training, the Lakeland Flying Tigers season in minor league baseball, and various non-game day events. The Facility Operations Manager will ensure that all events held at the complex—from high-profile MLB Spring Training games to local minor league contests and third-party functions—run smoothly and efficiently. This position demands strong leadership capabilities, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to maintaining an optimal guest experience while ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the facility. Key responsibilities include event setup and breakdown, coordination with vendors, facility maintenance, managing game day staffing and security operations, inventory tracking, and serving as the primary liaison with the City of Lakeland regarding stadium repairs and maintenance. The role requires managing packages and mail logistics, enforcing security protocols at visitor check-in/check-out, and supporting the overall administration of the Player Development Academy as part of day-to-day operational oversight. A successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, possess strong customer service skills with an executive professional presence, and effectively multi-task while collaborating with various departments. The Detroit Tigers emphasize inclusivity and equal opportunity employment, offering reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities throughout the hiring process. The role includes physically active responsibilities aligned with the seasonal demands of MLB and MiLB schedules, including working evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of MLB's storied franchises by ensuring world-class facility operations amid professional sports environments.
