Job Description
The Detroit Tigers are a professional Major League Baseball team located in Detroit, Michigan, with deep roots in the sport's history and a commitment to excellence both on and off the field. Known for their passionate fan base and competitive spirit, the organization operates a comprehensive baseball program that extends beyond the major league team, including a spring training facility and player development initiatives. The team plays a vital role in the Lakeland, Florida community through their Tigertown complex, which serves as a hub for training, player development, and hosting a multitude of events, including minor league games and special third-party events.
This role focuses on overseeing the daily execution of Ballpark and Facility Operations at Tigertown, the spring training and player development site located in Lakeland, Florida. The successful candidate will be pivotal in managing all operational aspects related to the stadium, including MLB Spring Training events, minor league games held by the Lakeland Flying Tigers, non-game day functions, and various third-party events hosted at the facility. This full-time position requires a candidate skilled in logistics, vendor coordination, facility maintenance, and operational security, ensuring a safe, clean, and efficient environment for visitors, players, staff, and contractors.
As the key point of contact for stadium and facility operations, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the dynamic aspects of event setup and breakdown, overseeing equipment and contracts related to event vendors and maintenance providers, and liaising closely with the City of Lakeland concerning repairs and maintenance work. In addition to supporting the Director of Security with operational and game day staffing responsibilities, you will also play an integral role in overseeing the security and functioning of the Player Development Academy. This includes supervising visitor check-in and check-out procedures, managing inventory, and tracking incoming and outgoing packages. This position requires a balance of strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced, outdoor environment typical of baseball seasons.
The role demands collaboration and communication skills to coordinate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including city officials, vendors, and team staff. Successful candidates will bring a customer service mindset and an executive, professional presence that aligns with the high standards of the Detroit Tigers organization. You will be working in a combination of outdoor and office environments and must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays associated with baseball schedules. Physical activity, standing, and walking will be routine parts of your duties, emphasizing the dynamic nature of this position.
In summary, this position offers a unique opportunity to be a crucial part of the Detroit Tigers' operations at their spring training and player development facility. If you have experience in sports venue operations, facility management, security coordination, and vendor relations, this role will allow you to contribute directly to the smooth running and success of one of baseball's most storied organizations.
